My name is Vivien McEvoy. I am 30 years old and I am a primary school teacher from Ireland. I have subbed in various schools around Sydney and have been living here since June 2022.
I graduated from the National University of Ireland Galway with a BA in History and Geography in 2014 and then went on to study my Professional Masters in Primary Education with Hibernia College Dublin where I graduated in 2018. I completed three Teaching Placement blocks which altogether were 22 weeks (including 4 evaluation weeks) in total over a two-year period. During this time, I taught children in multi-class settings aswell as in single-class settings.
I have worked both in Mainstream classrooms that have been multi-class settings and single-class settings, as well as Special Education classrooms and ASD units too. I have collaborated with children’s parents, class teachers and various healthcare professionals such as; Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists and Psychologists during my teaching career thus far in order to meet each child’s individual learning needs and to ensure child-centred learning is achieved in my teaching.
I enjoy integrating a lot of active learning and group-work projects (collaborative learning) in my teaching as I believe when the children become active learning agents in their education that it enables them to acquire important learning skills that embed in their memory long-term and gives the children enjoyable learning experiences.
My most recent post was as a Mainstream Class Teacher in St. Brendan’s N.S Clonfert in a multi-class setting for 2nd, 3rd and 4th class children. I have gained invaluable skills and knowledge from working in this classroom in relation to my classroom management and time management to ensure the children’s needs were met. I had to teach 2 different curriculums while also ensuring that each class level was covered as well as being mindful of the diverse nature within a classroom where I had to ensure each child’s individual ability and learning needs were met within their own class levels also. I thoroughly enjoyed integrating whole-class group-work projects into lessons for the children to enable them to collaborate together and to support each other in learning new skills as well as scaffolding one another’s learning too. I also prepared two classes for the Holy Sacrament for the First Holy Communion due to Covid-19 delaying Communion times over the past 2 years.
I also worked as a Special Education Teacher in St. Augustine’s N.S from September 2018 until November 27th 2020. I have gained invaluable experience developing both my skills and knowledge as a teacher in this school from the teachers, children and all of the staff there. I have experience using various teaching methods and strategies in literacy and numeracy such as; station teaching, team/peer teaching, active learning and blended learning using technology in the mainstream classrooms as well as teaching children that need individual support depending on their learning needs in small groups and in a 1:1 capacity also.
I am a very active person and enjoy school sociable events and especially sporting events. I have organised my own as well as having assisted teachers and children with sports events along with other events in the school such as; First Holy Communion preparation in order to receive the Sacrament, school masses, Grandparent’s day, Green Flag Committees and projects.
Subbing in various schools around Sydney and the Eastern Suburbs since I arrived in 2022.
I am a very active person who loves the outdoors and sports. I am also very creative and like to draw and paint. I love animals also.
