  • My initial duties for Peter Mac was to manage the transformation of the Anaesthetic environment from the old Peter Mac hospital to the new.
  • Together with a senior Anaesthetist we coordinated and assisted in the setup and installation of the new anaesthetic environment including: The management of approximately 15 staff members to assist in the commissioning of, all the anaesthetic machines, par lists and stocking of the theatre drug cupboards, emergency trolleys, difficult airway trolleys, fiber optic scope trolleys, anaesthetic setup within the operating theatres, testing and commissioning of the anaesthetic machines with Draeger, anaesthetic stock ordering and packing the anaesthetic stock room, commissioning the anaesthetic environment of the MRI and CT facility, packing and transferring safely the anaesthetic stock and equipment from the old hospital to the new, unpacking the anaesthetic stock and equipment from the old hospital, managing the ordering, delivery and packing of the new anaesthetic stock and equipment, testing all equipment both electrically and functionally, writing the new operating procedure and operating checklists.
  • Once the new environment had been completed and signed off my role transitioned to a senior anaesthetic and recovery room nurse.

  • I sat on the Best Practices committee for nursing and health as well as the industry standards committee for the national training of Sterilisation, Pharmacy and Pathology.
  • I have worked with the industry and with the Industry Skills Council to write the Paediatric training units and the Collect Specimens Other Than Blood unit.
  • We are expecting this to be ratified by the end of 2015 and to be fully endorsed by industry.
  • I was appointed the team leader for Sterilisation, Pharmacy, Pathology and Allied Health.
  • This included the responsibility for 6 staff making sure any issues were addressed with the students and lecturing staff.
  • All students had access to book time with me, if the need arose, to discuss or get any of their issues resolved.
  • I also setup a Pathology outpatient clinic for the Central Reach Centre in conjunction with Clinipath.
  • This allowed students who required their bloods taken for workplace serology to be done onsite at the Mt Lawley campus.
  • Approximately nine hundred students were to be managed through the clinic per year.
  • For the units I lectured in, I was responsible for the content delivered, mapping and validation, including its currency and validity and that it met the requirements under the Australian Quality Training Framework guidelines.

  • Immediately following my training at Royal Perth Hospital as a Pathology Collector, I worked full time for PathWest, at Fremantle Hospital.
  • The role of the position included seeing patients on wards and within the outpatient clinic.
  • Additional to the core hospital wards, I also took blood specimens from patients in psychiatric and children's wards.
  • Advanced Responsibilities: I taught 3rd and 4th Year Medical Students and Curtin University Laboratory students Phlebotomy (Beginners, Intermediate and advanced training including additional precaution patients and ward rounds).
  • Bleeding children less than 10 years of age and teaching advanced techniques in paediatric bleeding.
  • I took specimens from patients on the critical wards including the coronary care unit, oncology, stroke and psychiatric wards.
  • I was responsible for organising and scheduling the Pathology Department's ward rounds on weekends and during the week.
  • Clinical Responsibilities: Collected pathology samples from hospital inpatients and outpatients and other clients.
  • Specimen collections included blood specimens by venepuncture, urine samples, swabs, skin scrapes and other collections for specialised tests.
  • Prepared specimens (including centrifugation and separation), and registered requests for processing to Central Specimen Reception Area.
  • Liaised with clinical, pathology, para-medical and other staff, when required, in the collection of the appropriate specimen ensuring safety and minimum trauma to the patient.
  • Liaised with clinical staff regarding specialised test procedures and prepared and assisted in these procedures.

  • I ran a training centre, which taught personal identity and hypnotherapy and their application within ones personal life.
  • This was taught in groups of up to 20 participants over a three month program.

  • I ran the Point Zero Youth Initiative (Melbourne) which was established in response to the growing incidence of street parties that often saw the excessive use of drugs and alcohol.
  • The project involved the stationing of a suitably equipped vehicle (van) at popular street party venues.
  • Trained volunteers from Point Zero would mingle within the party, offering assistance where required.
  • This included counseling, advice, information, a link with emergency services and a line of communication with families where necessary.
  • The program has the continued support of the Victoria and NSW Police, Metropolitan Ambulance Service, Child Services Agency, Australian Medical Association (AMA) and the Department of Human Services.
  • Since its inception, the role of the van has been extended to include the provision of programs at schools and community organisations.
  • Within these settings the Point Zero van serves as a focal point for class discussions, teacher training and the dissemination of information regarding drugs and alcohol.

  • I ran an office in Melbourne, Sydney and San Francisco.

  • We predominantly worked both with the I.T. industry and heavily with the medical industry to provide research assistance and funding to these market sectors.
