Quality inspections on all equipment and materials, review and approve construction drawings, review and approve construction and site specifications, schedule works, review and up-date project schedules, review and approve commercial agreements. First point of contact with clients, consultants, sub-contractors and all levels of senior management. Project accountability for the financial outcomes of all projects. Design and construct lead building a specific team to complete multiple complex mine construction projects across Australia.

  • Based on site at BHPs Olympic Dam project my role as the Project Director was to cover all aspects of this major Waste Heat Boiler shutdown.   • Based on site at Barrow Island LNG Project and reporting directly to the Area Manager my role was to lead the Construction, Commissioning and Engineering for the project. This role included Construction management of day to day planning and scheduling of all works, attending daily meetings reporting on construction progress with Company and daily reports to both the Area Manager and Company, Clarification of roles and responsibilities, management of SMP & E&I engineers, SMP Supervisors, E&I Supervisors, a team of administration staff, permit to work and isolation lead, overseeing the master project schedule with the planning and scheduling departments, Leading Hands and Craft. Providing effective leadership through guidance, timely and accurate reporting, managing all contractual and KPI reporting, working closely with the Area Manager to make sure that schedules and budgets are meet in a safe and timely manner. Site management of all HR/IR issues retaining to the project.

  • Based on site at Rio Tinto Parker Point Fuel Terminal for the construction of 2 x 28mil litre steel diesel tanks. My duties included but limited to being the sole point of contact for Rio Tinto management. Site management of construction team of 90 personal, 4 tank supervisors, 8 leading hands, site admin staff, site engineering, QA/QC and the site safety team. Reporting to PM on all site progress and Rio Tinto concerns regarding the project. Management of all site HR/IR issues. Head of daily and weekly client progress meetings for Downer Group on site. Planning of daily works and scheduling of equipment and managing daily site KPIs. Site performance reviewing and site management of sub-contractors.

  • Based on site at the Rio Tinto Yarwun Alumina refinery, my duties included but not limited to being the sole point of contact for Rio Tinto management, leading and managing safety team, planning, budget control, site reporting, engineering queries, HR issues and onsite training, checking of work packs and safety procedures, performance and safety reviews, managing of all permits, cranes (200t, 100t, 80t and frannas), rigging and heavy lifting management, chairing of all management and safety meetings. Complete hand over of all assets in accordance with contractual requirements. Reporting directly to the General Manager and having 6 direct reports reporting to myself, with a work force of 165 trade staff for the construction of the plants new ball mill, load out area and conveyor systems.

  • Based at Lend Leases Newman operation in WA, my role was to lead the EPCM and EPC team for all construction works on various BHP and FMG mine sites in the area. Reporting to the Owners management team and Lend Lease senior management in Perth on construction progress. Daily management of construction planning and the master project schedule with the planning department reviewing and verifying all construction activities. Management of on-site construction activities, QA/QC approvals, Review and approve all project scopes and budgets, Review and approve sub-contractor tenders, managing and approval of all sub-contractor claims, management of procurement contracts and packages, Daily and weekly progress meetings with all sub-contractors, manage site based EPCM and or EPC team. Review and selection of site staff and clarify roles and responsibilities in all departments. Performance reviewing and training approvals with HR department if required. Working closely with the HSE teams for a zero-harm approach and LTI free workplace.

  • Based on sites around Queensland and reporting to the JV board in Brisbane, I was directly responsible for overseeing all project staff and subcontractors for all major projects, CHPP shutdowns, dragline shutdowns, LNG tank construction, gas compressor installations, distribution pipelines and shut down works on their Mining & LNG sites. Contract negotiation and development for sub- contractors, defining work and safety scopes and packaging, resolving engineering queries and safety issues, managing contractor claims, managing commercial equipment along with procurement contracts and packages. Staff training and safety performance reviewing, safety procedure checking and HR issue resolving.
  • Working closely with the engineers on design of new CSG & LNG mechanical installations, construction and infrastructure projects on various coal mining projects. Head of toolbox and pre-start meeting. EPCM and EPC management of all site contractors on construction while having total financial control including P&L of all site activities within the major projects and shut down departments. Senior mentor to all site managers, superintendents and supervisors, chair of the safety committee with a total of 750 staff under my control with 21 directly reporting to myself. Projects ranged between $1m to $80m in value.

  • Based on site through the conception, design and negotiation phase of this project I was able to have great input in the way this demolition and construction project was to be completed. Hands on management of all sub-contractor negations, sub-contractor claims and commercial procurement. Reporting directly to the Rio Tinto construction board on all site issues and programming we covered the following works within time frame and budget.
  • Design and construction of new CHPP, conveyor systems, electrical, piping and controls. De-commission and demolition of the existing ROM pad and bin, decommission and demolition of 4.5 klms of over land conveyor, decommission and demolition of existing coal transfer station, bulk earthworks, installation of new ROM pad and bin along with new transfer station and over land conveyor system, installation of new stacker reclaimers and all associated concrete structures. Shut down and overhaul dragline and shovel machines.
