  • I also established and deployed Task Forces from the Gold Coast Group to the Hattonvale area.

Events Operations Manager

National Security Management
03.2012 - 03.2019
  • Manager of the major event contracts for National Security Management which included the Supercars Australia events around the country, Home of The Arts at Bundall, music festivals and other security contracts awarded to the company
  • I would attend meetings with the clients on a regular basis and work with them on rostering and proposed budgets
  • There was always the consultative process with the client to provide best possible coverage of security staff but also working within the client’s budget constraints
  • My role was operational planning of rosters and procedures/policies for these events
  • Staffing of around 1000 security and event staff throughout the calendar year and rostering of these staff
  • This involved setting up an excel spread sheet with all the relevant details of the staff members
  • This contained their licence details, their last working position at the event, any notes recorded from the last event and their availability
  • I would then work through the staffing list and place them on the rosters in the best suited position coinciding with their availability to work
  • Encouraged all employees to deliver a great service to the client by providing the appropriate training for their specific role before the event
  • I would conduct event inductions before events and provide maps, plans, briefings and all necessary equipment the staff would require during the event
  • This was my best opportunity to create a positive vibe with the working staff and give them an indication of what my expectations were when they wore the uniform and were representing National Security Management
  • I would always encourage the staff to speak with me or any of the Supervisor’s at the meeting, so they had a feeling of being welcomed to the company and part of the team
  • I feel it was critical to make them have a positive attitude before commencing work
  • At the larger events where we had over 150 staff, I would break down the event site into sectors
  • This would be supported by sector supervisors and a 2IC
  • The Gold Coast 600 is such a large event that it is broken into six sectors with two sperate sign on/off offices
  • I would then conduct specific briefings for the senior management crew and give them my instructions of what my requirements where for their respective sectors
  • There would be specific procedures required and an example would be to liaise with the Queensland Police when there was a dignitary visiting an event
  • We would need to work out the safest route for the dignitary and the entourage and then liaise with Traffic Control operators to give speedy entry to the motorcade
  • I would be required to attend briefings with all different agencies that would be involved with an event i.e., event medical, team medical, motorsport teams, Police from the specific state we were in, Clerk of the Course, Fire Fighting agencies, NRMA Care Flight team, local council representatives, residents living close to the track and many other stakeholders
  • There was a fleet of patrol vehicles and ATV’s that we would utilise for events and this required organisation of maintenance and fuel etc
  • Each driver of these vehicles would be trained on their use and check they had the appropriate licence
  • At the commencement of the Bathurst 1000 I would conduct a meeting with the drivers of these vehicles and talk through with them what my expectations were on how they would always drive the vehicles in a professional manner
  • They would sign the appropriate paperwork before taking control of the keys of each vehicle.

Security Supervisor

Sanctuary Cove
12.2004 - 03.2018
  • Provide Supervision of 32 operational security staff conducting 24-hour patrols on land and water in a secure community
  • This involved listening to the radio and monitoring what was happening on the ground
  • At times would travel with the patrol staff and monitor what they were doing and give guidance on what better ways to patrol to achieve more frequent visits to high-risk areas of the resort
  • Be a strong leader and ensure the security staff worked as a team during emergencies including house & boat fires, medical emergencies, physical assaults, motor vehicle accidents and general duties
  • An example of this was a house fire in Marine Drive North
  • On my arrival at the scene, I gave the Control Room Operator an update on what was happening and that the house was well involved of fire
  • I requested ‘000’ be called immediately and advise them of what information I had given the Control Room Operator
  • I then directed two security staff to my location that were carrying firefighting equipment in their vehicles and directed the third security staff member to man the security gates and give access to the emergency services vehicles that were attending
  • I then directed the security patrol boat to bring the portable firefighting pump and set up operations at the pool and assist with fighting the fire
  • We were able to slow down the progress of the fire from spreading to the next-door neighbour’s house and keeping the fire within the garage and right side of the house
  • Fire & Rescue arrived and we assisted them with ongoing firefighting operations
  • We received very good feedback on what our team had done at this fire from the Station Officer
  • Ensured staff members followed policies and procedures by guiding them through their training and giving them all the materials required to be an important part of the team
  • Also conducted disciplinary meetings when staff did not follow these policies and procedures
  • I would conduct at least one training session a month
  • With First Aid I would have a resuscitation dummy in the lunchroom and call two staff members back to the lunchroom and give them an exercise where a male has collapsed, and they needed to revive the male with their available resources
  • This proved very beneficial for the staff as they frequently utilised the equipment instead of only once every 12 months when doing their recertification
  • Had to work within a budget each year to purchase and maintain the security patrol vehicles, radios and uniforms
  • Monthly reports on current expenditure were submitted to the Operations Manager
  • I was given several employee awards for the excellent work achieved in this area and for several years was under the allocated budget for these portfolios
  • Example would be the uniform budget that I worked on
  • The allocated budget was $36,000 a year
  • This included Dry Cleaning of uniforms and purchase of new uniforms
  • I would calculate the expected expenditure for the Dry Cleaning and then work on an average monthly spend on purchase of uniforms
  • This was my working budget and stayed within this budget each month
  • If there was a need to spend over the set monthly limit, this would be deducted from the next month’s budget.

Suitabilitystatement

I meet with volunteers and staff regularly to provide high quality support and training through meetings and workshops in accordance with the departmental policy and guidelines. I offer support at every opportunity and ensure volunteers and staff are provided every opportunity available to them for Professional Development. This is achieved by providing the details of these opportunities during my visits or email to perspective attendees. My operational management skills have been fostered over 16 years of extensive experience and I will always look to mentor and provide guidance to volunteers and staff. I am confident in making informed and time critical decisions when the situation demands at large incidents, for which I hold the appropriate qualifications. I continue to enhance my skill set, more recently having successfully completed the Level 3 Incident Controller course. I will always strive to strengthen my knowledge in leadership and experience. I have been intrinsic with the organisational change with the training packages and have managed this through a hands-on approach to lead and manage the key stakeholders involved. I possess the ability to hold open and robust conversations and look for a positive outcome at every opportunity possible. This form of communication has been an integral part of the operations business management to ensure our volunteers and staff are well trained and acquire the skills and knowledge to competently respond to any incident they are responded to. Currently I am undertaking training for Chief Fire Warden as there is more for me to learn in this environment and I am constantly seeking opportunities to enhance my knowledge to ensure the correct procedures are followed with the writing of permits. Recently I have been involved with the Fire Management Group and Finance Management working groups where I continue to learn but I believe I have already started on good working relationships in these areas and will further build on this in the future. I believe this relates to the community service operations to build our network and establish communications between our community stakeholders and groups for better outcomes during operations. I have demonstrated leadership in this space by providing important intelligence on previous learnings and building a better future. Annual General Meetings and Group/Brigade functions have been one of my key roles to attend as the Area office representative and this has been very important to build working relationships with the volunteers and I have taken these opportunities to listen and learn what is happening.
