Summary

I am a proud Wayilwan/Gamilaroi man, with lived experience of disability .Have spent over 18 years in civil construction as a sub- contactor operating heavy plant equipment. I have an extensive employment history in Aboriginal community support, advocacy and engagement in Western NSW. I have been an advocate for the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with or without a disability. I am now at a time in my life that future goals are to further my skills in research and scholarly and advocacy in a tertiary setting, within my community.

Community Engagement Officer

NDIA funded ILC ( Wambinya Buwanha ) program for people with disabilities living in regional and rural regions of NSW.

  • Support government and researchers to further understanding of people with a disability and their employment needs.
  • Support people with disability on their pathway to employment, education and training by providing mentoring, interview techniques, assist people get TFN, build their knowledge on workplace responsibilities, completing TAFE or short courses ie White Card, First Aid and matching participants with employment.
  • Engage and build relationships with a wide variety of Aboriginal organisations (LALC's and WCC), employment providers/ disability employment providers, allied health organisations, ASM's, Aboriginal elders groups, the Dept of Education, local schools and TAFE campuses.
  • Support people in need of Mental Health support, by linking participant with Likemind, Headspace or the OAMS SEWB (Social and emotional wellbeing team).
  • Built strong bonds with local cultural organizations by respecting unique differences and specific societal norms.
  • Immerse Aboriginal people in culture to assist them to gain a sense of identity by linking with Aboriginal Cultural programs, Aboriginal language with ILC staff and continuing my own learning of culture (culture and heritage/firestick alliance)

  • Co-authored two systematic literature reviews understanding how the NDIS planning process works in regional, rural and remote areas.
