1. Clinical
• Responsible for the ongoing, individualised assessment, care planning and evaluation of clinical and non-clinical requirements.
• Attend to current clinical care needs in a timely manner i.e. wound care, medication administration and other treatments/processes registered nurses are responsible for.
• Attend to sudden and critical clinical care needs in a timely manner and seek assistance as required
• Administer medications in line with documented administration information and follow appropriate channels for documenting reasons when not administered and alternative actions taken.
• Ensure all documentation, work logs and observation charts are completed in accordance with St Basil’s and Legislative reporting requirements.
• Monitor clinical indicators each shift, discuss observations with the Clinical Nurses and Care Manager and seek advice in relation to required actions as required.
• Review clinical indicators weekly, discuss results with clinical teams and assist the Clinical Nurses and Care Manager identify and implement required actions.
• Liaise with Medical Practitioners, pharmacists and allied health workers and inform of residents’ requests, change in condition and/or concerns which may affect the outcome of care if not communicated.
• Effectively coordinate staff within area of responsibility (St Basil’s staff, agency staff, external providers, volunteers etc).
• Raise concerns, unusual occurrences, incidents and accidents immediately, notify the Residential Manager and the Care Manager of any critical incidents, mandatory reporting, elder abuse (suspected or otherwise), missing resident, transfers to hospital etc.
• Ensure the ongoing comfort, privacy, dignity, and preferences of each resident are respected and maintained by all staff and contractors.
• Encourage and support residents to make their own decisions and ensure full disclosure and discussion of risks associated with those decisions.
• Liaise with families/ legal advocates and provide updates as required.

2. Management and leadership
• Mentor and train less experienced staff including EN’s, Student Nurses, Student EN’s and RN’s and Care Staff
• Demonstrate leadership in maintaining infection control principles at all times and educate staff on the principles, policies and procedures of infection control
• Always promote team work and act as a positive role model at all times
• Recognise and promote the values and diverse needs of each Resident and assist them in maintaining their cultural and spiritual requirements
• Regularly attend and contribute to meetings and provide expert input into the various working groups as necessary
• Take a leadership role in continual quality improvement in the delivery of client services
• Ensure all standards are maintained consistent with evidence based best practice standards as applicable to the role of Registered Nurse.
3. Training
• Complete mandatory/compulsory training sessions as directed and on or before due dates
• Maintain own professional development by participating in training and development which is in addition to those which are compulsory and provided by St Basils
• Actively participate in quality improvement initiatives both within St Basil’s and by networking with other health professionals and bodies
• Maintain an accurate record of CPD points.
