● I have completed units in:
● Planning for career success
- An assignment where I identified what I was passionate about, and which career I would accordingly find fulfilling.
- An assignment where I identified three occupations in Australia in which I could excel (youth justice worker, counsellor, and psychologist) and I did a project where I discussed one of these professions (youth justice worker) in depth.
- A third assignment where I made an action plan to become a youth justice worker, factoring in and playing to my strengths and my weakness. I also wrote a mock cover letter that I would send if I was theoretically applying for that role.
● Understanding language and literacy
- I undertook two personal literacy quizzes to assess my proficiency in the english language. Of the 80 questions spread between the two quizzes, I correctly answered 76 of the questions (95%)
- I wrote an essay on the importance of oral language acquisition in early childhood / school age students, highlighting it importance, and methods through which it could be acquired.
- I submitted a case study of the writing samples of a primary school students and assessed them per the Australian Curriculum, Assessment, and Reporting Authority (ACARA) and the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA). I also explained how this particular students could be remedied. I also designed 2 separate activities that a teacher could employ to refine and teach the English language to primary school aged students.
● Theories of counseling
(In progress - but I think that I will get a distinction as all that’s left to complete is an open book online quiz)
- I submitted two reflective journal pieces about the various counselling approaches, wherein I stated what I knew about each approach prior to studying it, what I had learned about it while studying it, and how I now viewed that approach in light of what I had learned. I then connected all of these things and explained how exactly I would implement what I had learned in my own, future practice as a counsellor.
- I also wrote a research proposal, wherein I highlighted a poignant current issue that limits the effectiveness of the mental health services that are offered to vulnerable/ at-risk youth, and proposed to undertake research through which this issued could be elucidated so as to be surmounted; thus greatly increasing the effectiveness of the mental health services that are currently being offered to the aforementioned at risk youth.
- To conclude this unit, I sat an exam that consisted of 48 questions, in which I answered X amount of the 48 questions correctly.
● Brain and behaviour
- I learned about learning. I learnt about reward and punishment, positive and negative reinforcement, various mental disorders, and how motivation could be fostered and channelled.
- I wrote an essay on the importance of sleep, and wrote a reflective summary and assessment on the ethical practices employed by a number of previously conducted scientific studies.
- I main thing that I did in this unit was learn, and I learned a lot. About how peoples brains and bodies work. About how people work. At the end of this unit I sat an 120 question exam, in which I answered 100 out 120 questions correctly, demonstrating a strong grasp of the units covered content.
