Throughout my apprenticeship I have been guided and mentored in the correct ways to operate within south 32 following all parameters to ensure a safe, friendly and productive work environment, the skills and knowledge i have gained working alongside south32 tradesmen has also been a rewarding experience as i am now able to give back to my work environment in problem solving, hazard identification, general maintenance, breakdown rectifications and team leading tasks, I have been a permanent mechanical fitter apprentice at the washery I am currently in my 4th year which has given me constant exposure to the washery allowing me to confidently fulfill tasks to the best of my ability to better the washery, I see this job as a life long career that i am proud of due to south 32 high standards.

  • current job role is a coal clearance fitter during the past 4 months of working on coal clearance I have gained vital information on appin mine as a whole, the skills I have gained are conveyor installs and retractions, belt clip installs, winch rope change out, sheeve block change out, drive pulley change out, syntron wear liner replacement, sizer change out and install, sizer maintenance, belt maintenance, scavenger chain install, general belt coverage during production, longwall installs, hydraulic hose install on chocks, fault finding on hydraulic power pack, pump fault diagnose, I am continuing to learn new skills each day that benefit the mine no matter what team I am apart of i also have previous experience at the mine as i have completed my apprenticeship through south32 working at west cliff washery below are the details on my time there.
  • During my time at west cliff coal preparation plant as a mechanical fitter ive been privileged to work on all mechanical components within the washery ranging from centrifugal pumps that have a variety of different sealing applications such as gland packing to lip seals, mechanical seals, water injection seals accompanied with all the different sized pumps, conveyor systems, uni shaft installs, fluid coupling installs, centrifuge's, pulleys, bearings, trunnion roll alignment's, grouting foundations to support pumps, laser alignment, metal fabrication, pipe installation, cyclone installs, screen deck installs, gearbox installs and maintenance and overhauls, v belt maintenance, pneumatic cylinder maintenance and installs other tasks I have conducted at site are being a dogman, rigger, ewp operator, tele handler operator, overhead gantry crane operation, fabricator, general plant operator, fire watcher, isolation supervisor and gas monitoring
  • I have also worked within the production crew learning how the plant operates within each area and the issues or hazards you may face during the operation of the washery, with 4 years maintenance experience and 1 year's worth of production operating experience i have gained the knowledge and skills to diagnosis and solve plant issues and breakdowns with confidence and safety at mind
