Martial Arts Instructor

Inspire Program Australia
05.2021 - 12.2022

I worked 5 days a week teaching martial arts to children from the ages of 5 to 12. Through this job I have been given the opportunity to:

  • Engage extensively with both parents and children on a daily basis as parents are interested in the progress of their child alongside more administrative issues such as how to book their child in for grading days and other events provided by Inspire
  • Teach kids discipline, self defence and improve their overall physical/mental health
  • Learn how to work effectively within a team. We pick children up from school, provide them with food and then conduct rotations consisting of martial arts, homework time and Inspire time (art) meaning an afternoon with minimal disruption requires clear communication for both the safety of the children and the success of the program
  • I have also obtained a valid Working With Children check alongside my First Aid Certificate
  • Deal with large administrative tasks such as the organisation and booking of grading days in which we deal with over 500 students and their families, processing their bookings and conducting a successful grading

Plumbing Labourer

John Atkins Plumbing
08.2021 - 11.2021

Covid-19 took a massive toll on local businesses and one of my coaches plumbing businesses were struggling due to the high demand for work but lack of workers due to restricted LGAs etc. :

  • I started work on extremely short notice but was asked to help throughout the lockdown period due to my previous construction experience
  • It was a totally new experience and taught me discipline as we began at 7 in the morning and finished at 3 pm doing intense labour
  • Learnt an extremely vast range of new skills, how to install water pipes, fix roofing, install toilets and showers, run safety tests on gas pipes, crawl under houses and climb on top of roofs, operate heavy machinery such as a wall chase, jackhammer, power saw, pipe compressor and much more
  • Lots of problem solving and instruction following due to the high risk work environment where a minor error could result in catastrophe
  • Encountered a different type of communication with customers, we had to explain the processes, pricing, deadlines and suggest the safest and most practical solutions to their problem
  • Communication with other companies was important as we worked alongside electricians, carpenters, architects and had to adjust on countless occasions due to customer needs or design criteria

Bone Dry Remedial
11.2020 - 02.2021

Working as a labourer was a very physically demanding experience and was my first proper employment in which:

  • Got a lot of hands on experience with a variety of powered tools and learnt the basics of construction work
  • Worked in fast paced, high stress environments which meant I had to think and act proactively, making decisions on the go
  • Interpreted job site supervisor's orders and technical documentation to complete accurate work.
  • Recognized and reported potential project challenges and assisted with solutions.
  • Handled Jackhammers and various other powered construction tools and machinery to effectively complete demolition and waterproofing work.
