Summary

Youth Worker seeking part time work for Youth Futures Education and Training. I have four months of experience working in a conventional school environment and three years experience as a youth worker for City of Joondalup Youth Services. through both of these experiences I have developed exceptional interpersonal skills, creativity, critical thinking and a passion for supporting young people in all their endeavours. I approach all conversations with an open mind, aware that I always have much to learn from the people I am talking to.

On top of this, I enjoy finding new and creative ways to engage young people in informal learning, as well as helping their own ideas come into fruition. I have often been praised for my emotional stability and gentle approach. I am very comfortable with group work but shine most in one on one interactions.

I am aware that my limited experience in the youth work field may be seen as undesirable. I instead see this as a strength, since it allows me to learn and grow into a perfect fit for the Youth Futures Team. Furthermore, my age offers more opportunities to relate to young people, leading to quicker rapport building.

Work History

Youth Worker

City of Joondalup Youth Services
06.2022 - Current

For nearly three years I have assisted in running the Edge and Anchors programs, as well as the Youth Truck. In the Edge program, I engaged young people from 15 to 25 in music and pop culture focused programs ranging from dance classes, to informal guitar lessons, to online dungeons and dragons hosted by young people. In the Anchors program, I have engaged young people from 11 to 18 in activities such as sports, table tennis and pool. I have also helped run the Youth Truck; a mobile youth centre travelling to skate parks in the Joondalup area and delivering engagement to a wider range of young people. Across all of these programs, I use the engagement activities as a vehicle to build rapport with young people so I can better support their needs.

Youth mentor in the Aspire program: An alternative education program within the school designed to help young people who struggle to learn in a typical classroom environment. My role within this program was to facilitate a positive learning environment, working one on one with students to complete certificates while fostering positive professional relationships. I promoted informal learning by running activities about drug education and mental health.
