Skills and Responsibilities;

• Working within a highly skilled team to provide optimum patient care
• Care for patients pre and intraoperative in a variety of theatres including neurosurgery, urology, burns, orthopaedics, plastics, ophthalmology, vascular, acute surgical and trauma
• Intraoperative blood management including acute bleeding requiring massive transfusion packs
• Support the anaesthetist with airway management and experience with management of complex airways
• Restock and manage medications including those under Schedule 8
• Responsible for checking equipment and restocking regularly
• Communicating with patients from diverse backgrounds to ensure all required paperwork and consents are completed correctly
• Provide empathetic reassurance and patient centred care
• Assisting with transfer and intra-operative care of patients from ICU, emergency department and retrievals
• Experience with cell salvage (collect only)

Anaesthetic Nurse - 6 months

Skills and responsibilities;

• Gain experience of the role of an anaesthetic nurse in the pre and intraoperative setting
• Conduct preoperative checks on patients independently
• Gain a basic understanding of anaesthetic medication
• Monitor vital signs during critical periods such as intubation
• Assist the anaesthetist during the administration fo regional and general anaesthetic
• Assist with the patient positioning, minimise the risk of developing pressure injuires

Acute Surgical Unit (RN) - 6 months

Skills and responsibilities;

• Manage my time effectively while caring for multiple medically complex patients
• Regular medication administration of many medications including intravenously
• Work across a 24 hour roster with night shift
• Liaise with surgical, emeregency and allied health teams with the ability to give effective patient handover
• Assist patients with activities of daily living
• Communicate with patients's families and caregivers clearly and compassionately

Responsibilities as Team Leader;

• Clinical guidance and problem solving
• Liaising with management staff
• De-escalating stressful/aggressive situations with patients
• Stock ordering and management
• Oversight and management
• Appropriate infection control measures and PPE

Theatre - Anaesthetics

• Preparing the equipment for anaesthetist
• Checking the anaesthesia workstation at the start of shift
• Appropriate documentation
• Handover of patient to recovery staff
• Cleaning the anaesthesia machine and workstation between patients and at the end of the day
