My name is Amelia. Life has turned out differently than I imagined. I focused really hard in college to get trained enough to get an apprenticeship as a carpenter or any trade really. I don't know why but it just never happened for me so I got a job at the Beauty Point Waterfront Hotel to fill in time until I got an apprenticeship. I later learnt that because I've had back pain for ages and going to a doctor at the age of 19 I have osteoarthritis. It was actually 3 months before my diagnosis I told my boss that I actually quit my dream of becoming a builder and that I wanted to stay long term and grow myself in the hospitality business. I've never let my boss down and that I work hard every day, I'd say I work harder than most people at my job who don't have the same limitations as I do. I began to really enjoy my job and just under 12 months from no experience I became a shift supervisor which they don't offer to people unless they have been there for a while. I work very closely with the owners and the manager and always ask for ways to improve. That's why I have started school at University to become a manager one day. I also will eventually study IT because technology is becoming something we really depend on and I think it will help out a lot if a hospitality manger can have knowledge about IT. I already have knowledge but I want to grow on it.
