Responsibilities as a Placement Student –

• Assisted in providing guidance and support to foster carers through home visits, phone support, and participation in Care Team meetings.
• Observed and contributed to advocacy for carers and children, including liaison with Senior Practitioners, Managers, Department of Child Protection staff, and Aboriginal Cultural Consultants.
• Supported the delivery of foster care information sessions, training modules, and placement-related meetings.
• Developed skills in case documentation, information exchange, and maintaining compliance with WWCC and training requirements.
• Contributed to organising foster carer events, support groups, and professional development activities, while also participating in the after-hours on-call roster under supervision.

• Provide assessment, counselling, and consultancy to individual students and their parents.
• Support students during times of crisis.
• Deliver appropriate feedback and follow-up to parents, teachers, pastoral, and support staff.
• Assist school staff in identifying and addressing students’ social, emotional, learning, and behavioural needs.
• Facilitate group seminars and programs for students and parents on emotional and social health.
• Guide families in accessing referrals to external professionals when required, and follow up to support parents and provide feedback to relevant staff.
• Maintain confidential case files for all students receiving counselling.
• Provide advice and guidance on child protection matters.
• Evaluate documentation and processes to support continuous improvement.
• Contribute to the development and writing of school policies and procedures.

• Provide an initial brief counselling session to incoming callers to the Support Line
• Provide outgoing contact to ongoing participants of the service via phone, text, or video conferencing
• Schedule follow up sessions for participants where required
• Conduct referrals to partner agencies and other relevant service providers
• Ensure records of all sessions are updated as per existing administrative processes and as directed by the Senior Practitioner
• Participate in regular supervision activities with Senior Practitioner
• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with other services, as required
• Advocate and consult on counselling, social justice and related issues
• Work in cooperation with government and non-government initiatives that improve coordination between agencies and address access and equity issues.

• Provide intensive support, counseling and case management which includes working within a recovery model and assertive follow up
• Take a holistic approach with client in residential including working proactively to assist them to connect with services within the local community
• Complete assessment, case plans, evaluations, data entry and case notes required by the program
• Develop and regularly review case plans and outcomes in conjunction with clients
• Enhance the ability of individuals, family members and significant others including mandated clients to recognize and reduce harm related to AOD issues
• Facilitate SMART recovery
• Being on On-Call service
• Provide support to Clean Needle Program
• Participate in supervision with senior practitioner

• Collect and analyze pertinent data for program
• Respond to patients’ physical and psychological needs
• Maintain patient confidentiality at all times
• Ensure that any aggressive behavior is handled with absolute tact
• Evaluate and provide feedback on the effectiveness of treatment programs
