I am a diligent nursing and midwifery graduate who is passionate about providing exceptional care to people from diverse backgrounds and building trust-based relationships with my colleagues. My experience as a RUSOM has amplified my desire to work more closely with breastfeeding and trauma-informed care. Through this role, I have become proficient in effective communication with women and escalating care. During my clinical placement experiences, I have demonstrated the ability to apply knowledge to practice and would like to explore opportunities in community and women’s public health in my future practice.

- Assisting mothers with feeding their babies and other mother-baby crafting skills such as bathing, dressing, changing and settling. Adopted a judgment free approach to differing parenting styles.
- Providing education to families regarding topics within my scope such as formula demonstration, cord care and feeding cues. Learnt to adapt education delivery and content based on the needs of the family.
- Updating and reporting back to midwives about patient’s and changes. Learnt how to identify deteriorating conditions and the correct process of escalating.
- Assisting women with mobilising post c-section. Measuring trial of voids. Emptying catheters and general hygiene care for women postoperatively. Developed a heightened awareness of women who are at increased risk of falling or collapse and ways to prevent this.

- Undertaking clinical skills such as vital signs, ECGs, BGLs, assisting patients with hygiene and daily activities of living, orienting newly admitted patients to the ward and preparing them for discharge. Became proficient in these skills as well troubleshooting equipment when required.
- Maintaining infection control measures by wearing and stocking up PPE. Gained an understanding of different transmission routes of infection and practiced regular cleaning and hygiene.
- Collaborating with allied health and other nursing staff to maximize patient wellbeing and satisfaction. Recognised the importance of handing over patients throughout and in between shifts and became familiar with using ISBAR.
