Work History

Diploma of Enrolled Nursing – Placements

Bendigo Tafe
03.2023 - 02.2024
  • My first Placement was in Avoca aged care where I assisted nurses and patients with Daily ADL's, writing progress notes, completing tasks and connecting with resident's
  • I spent a lot of this placement observing and learning what I could from other nurses as well as patients
  • My second placement was in Wattle Rise Aged Care and for this placement I was allowed to give out medication while supervised, I was lucky enough to gain a bit of experience in reading medication charts and preparing medications
  • I learnt about new medications and their connections to diseases
  • My third placement was in the OPAU psychiatric ward at Bendigo health, this was my mental health placement
  • On this placement I was allowed to give IM and SC injections while supervised
  • I often calculated and drew up and administered medications, using my 14 rights
  • I was also able to gain experience in completing MSE's and during this placement my ability to write progress and handover notes really strengthened
  • My fourth placement was in the Acute ward at Maryborough hospital, for this placement I was now able to attend to wound care
  • I often assessed, cleaned and dressed wounds
  • For each placement I had I was able to strengthen previously learnt skills, take on more responsibility like a larger patient load and more progress notes to write up
  • I gained a fair bit of experience in administering medications/injections as well a boarder knowledge of what certain medications do, their class and their schedule
  • Through these placements I have acquired numerous helpful skills that I can use in a clinical setting and everyday life

  • I trained new staff as well as guided and assisted staff while working
  • I took stock of supplies and often completed health and safety checks to ensure our workspace is up to standard
  • This job really relied on my problem-solving skills and time management, I was often rushed and put in stressful situations where people looked to me for help
  • I also worked a lot of shift work with morning shifts stating at 3:30am to 1pm and evening shifts starting at 3:30pm to 11pm
