Nursing Practicums

Juniper Aged Care Facility, East Fremantle (Dec 2020)

My first nursing practicum was in aged care, where I was introduced to basic nursing care such as ADL's and manual handling.

Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital Ward G74 Gen Medical (July 2021)

My first hospital practicum was at SCGH on general medical ward G74, here I was introduced to patient loads, ISOBAR handovers, time managment, BGL's, OBS, observing medication administration and was shown how to write nursing notes at the end of a shift. I took a patient load of 2 on this practicum and wrote detailed nursing notes for these patients.

Shelby Older Adults Mental Health (November 2021)

I completed a mental health practicum for older adults at Shelby Centre. Here I completed medication administrations, and completed paperwork such as accessing PSOLIS and nursing medical notes.

Sir Charles Gairnder Theatre (January 2022)

I completed a practicum in theatre at SCGH. Here I got to work in the holding bay and in the operating rooms. Learning of operating equipment. I got to experience becoming a scrub nurse, scrubbing into operations such as hip replacements and ORIF's. I was also able to be a circulating nurse for operations such as laminectomy and disectomy and monitoring patients OBS throughout their operation. All nursing notes on my theatre practicum were completed online.

Royal Perth Hospital Ward 5G, Orthopaedic and Spinal Care Ward (February 2022)

- Completed ADL's, OBS, Medication Administration, Wound Care Dressings, Nursing Notes, and familiarising myself with doctors and physio's notes to best enhance the care I could give to patients.

Bentley Hospital Surgical Ward (May 2022)

- Completed Medication Administration, preparing patients for surgery and receiving patients back to the ward after surgery, completing nursing notes/familiarising myself with nursing notes completed in theatre to best enhance a patient centred care approach to these patients.

Fremantle Hospital Outpatients Clinic (July 2022)

- This practicum was different to any other practicum I had completed as the patients I was caring for were in my care for a short period of time. On this practicum, I was in multiple different clinics as well as in holding bay before theatre and in the same day recovery unit.
