Anaesthetic nurse:

  • Assists the anaesthetist at the end of the procedure as the patient emerges from the effects of anaesthesia.

Instrument nurse:

  • Responsible for all supplies used within the surgical theatre with the goal of anticipating the needs of the surgical team, ensure that all needed surgical supplies and instruments are sterile and functional, furthermore, the ability to respond quickly and efficiently to the surgeons' requests.

Circulating nurse:

  • Ensures that all surgical supplies are correctly and promptly provided to the operating theatre, responsible for the management and documentation of all supplies used in the surgical area, collection of patient specimens, verifying patient consent forms, preparation of surgical equipment, and ensuring an accurate count of instrumentation.

Recovery nurse:

  • Responsible for ensuring the patient's airway passage remains open, making and recording results from regular observations of the patient, responding to changes in the patient's condition and reporting to the Anaesthetist, taking corrective action for any post-operative complications, and handing over using ISBAR to the appropriate ward for the continuing care of the patient. Additionally, monitor emergence from anaesthesia, dressings, intravenous lines and drainage tubes.
