The Lyell McEwin Hospital (LMH) – Clinical Placement 

Based in Adult Acute Mental health. Ward 1G is a 30-bed inpatient unit for adults (18-65) experiencing acute mental health issues. 

• Facilitating groups within the Therapeutic Engagement Program, such as arts and craft, games, cooking, relaxation, and sensory groups.
• Completing various OT assessments to identify current function and inform recommendations for levels of support upon discharge.
• Liaising with family or past support coordinators to gain collateral information.
• Documentation within sunrise EPAS
• Completing NDIS reports utilising psychosocial disability discharge template.

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY STUDENT [May 2023 – July 2023]

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (TQEH) – Participatory Community Practice project 

Based within the Palliative Care ward of TQEH. 

• Contributions to weekly reflections and debriefs with supervisors to monitor project progress.
• Collaboration with various stakeholders including staff and patients through meetings.
• Planning and implementing actions plan to guide information gathering processes.
• Working closely with project facilitators within group, supervisors, and project stakeholders to identify and address identified needs.

Hampstead Rehabilitation Centre (HRC) – Clinical Placement

• Provision of OT inpatient rehabilitation for stroke patients within CALHN service.
• 1:1 therapy sessions with patients. Use of a range of OT interventions addressing upper limb hemiparesis, vision, cognition, and sensory loss.
• Facilitating group therapy sessions including upper limb groups and breakfast groups.
• SOAP documentation in sunrise EPAS.
• Undertaking various assessments such as cognitive screens, vision, and functional assessments.
• Independent patient scheduling for weekly timetable.
• Patient session planning with handovers to senior OT.

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY STUDENT   [July 2021 – Nov 2021]

Elizabeth Park Preschool 

Paediatric placement providing weekly therapy for preschool groups within 10-week program created by OT students. 

• Weekly session planning in student partnership
• Supervision of children during play and session times
• Facilitating weekly OT based therapy sessions with children including fine motor, gross motor, sensory and emotional regulation strategies.
• Client handover with preschool staff members and supervising OT.

Occupational Therapy for Children (OTFC group)

• Working alongside OTFC group leaders to carry out therapeutic activities assigned by OTs and assisting in planning and implementation of games and activities as required.
• 1:1 interaction with campers, including assistance with ADLs where required
• Providing overnight support and supervision of campers.
• Supporting and supervising children at mealtimes.
• Writing a daily summary of group activities to email to families each night.
