Summary

Currently a Senior Prison Officer at Western Planes Correctional Centre, since March 2025. Prior to this I was at MRC (Metropolitan Remand Centre) for 12 years. Senior Prison Officer for 7 years, and Acting Prison Supervisor at MRC the past 4 years. I am seeking to utilise my operational knowledge in conjunction with my leadership skills in order to obtain the position of Prison Supervisor at Western Plains Correctional Centre. During my time with MRC and recently at Western Planes, I have effectively demonstrated the DJR values of Respect, Community, Justice, Integrity and Making It Happen to both People in our care, staff and stakeholders alike. I would be delighted to be considered for the ongoing position at WPCC so I can employ my skills and values across Corrections Victoria in an ongoing capacity as Prison Supervisor.

  • - Running morning brief to plan daily agenda
  • - Utilising leadership and delegation skills in order to Supervise staff in all areas of the facility. In order to complete compliance, service delivery outcomes, manage security procedures, provide leadership, coaching and mentoring. Monitor prisoner behaviour and encourage positive modelling to prisoners at all times.
  • - Utilising prisoner intel from PIU in order to organising internal transfers between units.
  • - Ensuring security and safety of the unit by performing 1 on 1 catch ups with staff at all levels.
  • - Conflict resolution of both staff and prisoners by de-escalating situations using relevant inter-personal techniques.
  • Achievements
  • - Reviewed new prisoner reception process at MRC; suggested reception prisoners be distributed evenly across each unit within MRC in order to ease administration burden and potential prisoner settlement issues associated with Bellbridge unit and Burnside unit. This process would also ensure best practice as Prison Officers across all units would continue to be well versed in the reception procedures. This strategy has been initially welcomed by management and I look forward to working with them in future to assist in the potential implementation of the strategy.

  • - Utilised communication and organisation skills to liaise with various stakeholders across MRC, including clinicians, medical staff, chaplains, industry officers and fellow prison officers in order to ensure that prisoners were engaging in appropriate services whilst in remand.
  • - Working within diverse teams throughout the prison including PIU, ERG and SESG to ensure compliance and to ensure that all SDO minimum requirements were met. Ensuring that I have collaborative working relationships with these teams also maintained prisoner and staff safety and showed everyone involved the value of safety both within the prison and wider community.
  • - Utilising communication and interpersonal skills whilst working in accommodation to assist prisoners with Individual Management Plans and provide support and role modelling behaviour where required.
