Grace Missen

I commenced my nursing grad program on 8 South the cardiac and respiratory ward in the Mater Private Hospital back in February 2023. While being on this ward I have learned how to manage my time efficiently to provide patient centred care to all my patients while being an active member of our ward and helping out my team mates when needed. I have participated in many educational sessions and are competent in skills such as BLS, PICC flushing, bleeding and dressings, removal of ICC, insertion of catheters and management of patients on high-flow.

Throughout my last year as a nursing student in 2022 I experienced two x four week placements in the emergency department. The first was in Prince Charles ED and the second was Caboolture ED. This exposure of nursing in my last year of university opened my knowledge up to ED nursing and the importance of rapid assessments and treatment to patients when first presenting to the hospital. Both of these placements have influenced my decision that one day I would love to experience ED nursing.
