• Ensuring all the equipment required for each case are present and in working condition prior to the first surgical case of the day and making necessary arrangements to make them available to ensure smooth running of the list
• Assisting with appropriate disinfection and wiping down equipment and theatres at the start of the day and between cases and at the end of the list
• Receiving the patient by proper identification with all reports and records
• Arranging the theatre for operation
• Implementing aseptic technique for scrubbing, gowning, gloving, and preparing sterile instrument trolley for the desired operation
• Verifying patients with their reports and ensuring all pre-surgical preparations are done
• Reassuring the patient by explaining the procedure and ensuring maximum dignity is maintained
• Anticipating requirements of the surgical team
• Carrying out safety checks of all the instruments, swabs, sponges, and needles throughout the surgery
• Positioning the patient safely, correctly, and comfortably according to the surgery
• Painting and draping the patient
• Handling equipment and instruments during surgery
• Assisting the surgeon during surgery by being able to anticipate requirements
• Disinfecting certain used instruments/probes and sending them for sterilization to the CSSD
• Witnessing count of instruments, sharps, and sponges used in the theatre
• Documenting all client records accurately
• Labelling and dispatching specimens to the laboratory promptly and safely
• Assisting in the transfer of patient with all records to recovery room
• Managerial skills to enable smooth functioning of the theatre
