• Checking and making sure all OR equipment required for each case are present and in working condition prior to the first surgical case of the day. Ensuring necessary arrangements are made to source additional equipment/trays/sterile stock that might be needed to ensure smooth running of the list.
• Assisting with appropriate disinfection and wiping down equipment and theatres at the start of the day, in between cases and at the end of the list.
• Receiving the patient by proper identification with all reports and records.
• Arranging the theatre for operation.
• Thorough knowledge and ability to implement aseptic technique for scrubbing, gowning, gloving and preparing sterile instrument trolley for the desired operation.
• Verifying patients with their reports and ensuring all pre-surgical preparations are done.
• Reassuring the patient by explaining the procedure and ensuring maximum dignity is maintained for patient.
• Anticipating requirements of the surgical team.
• Carrying out safety checks and establishing a count of all the instruments, swabs, sponges and needles before and through the surgery
• Positioning the patient safely, correctly and comfortably according to the surgery.
• Using skin prep as per surgeon preference and patient allergy status and draping the patient.
• Appropriate handling of equipment and instruments during surgery
• Assisting the surgeon during surgery by being able to anticipate requirements.
• Applying suitable dressing on the surgical wound
• Disinfecting certain used instruments/probes before sending them for sterilization to the CSSD.
• Witnessing count of instruments, sharps and sponges used in the theatre.
• Thorough documentation of all records of clients accurately.
• Labelling and despatching specimens to the laboratory promptly and safely as fresh, frozen or in 10 percent formalin for histopathology.
• Assisting in transfer of patient with all records to the Post anaesthesia care unit.
• Managerial skills to enable smooth functioning of the theatre.

• Scubbed for gynaecology cases like, LSCS, D&C, Cervical Stitch, Open and laparoscopic Ovarian cystectomy, abdominal hysterectomy. Laparoscopic excision of endometriosis, open anterior and posterior repairs and vaginal hysterectomy.
• Scrubbed for general surgeries like, Laparotomy, Appendectomy, Skin Grafting, Amputation, lumpectomy, granuloma excision, modified radical mastectomy, thyroidectomy, Bowel resection-anastomosis, hernia repair, cholecystectomy, supra-omohyoid neck dissection.
• Scrubbed for Paediatric cases like hypospadias, ritual circumcision, undescended testis repair, pyeloplasty.
• Scrubbed for plastic surgery cases like microvascular flap reconstruction surgeries, skin grafting, cleft lip and palate repair, A-V fistula, tendon repair.
• Scrubbed for urology cases like cystoscopy, Uretero-reno-scopy, DJ stent insertion/removal, cystolithotomy, pyelolithotomy, nephron-sparing nephrectomy, radical cystectomy plus formation of an ileal conduit, varicocele repair, urethroplasty.
