- The pioneering position of Peer Support Worker at MC MHS is one of eight PSW’s employed by North Metropolitan Adult Mental Health Service
- I supported people suffering from chronic and persistent mental illness to engage with hope and recovery in order to live a satisfying and fulfilling life.
- I utilised crisis management listening skills, empathy and understanding in all of my interactions.
- I interpret the language and experience of recovery from mental illness for clinicians and for patients in order to transform patient self-perception, and clinical attitudes to psychiatric illness.
- It is a culture changing role which reduces stigma associated with mental illness and delivers tangible results for patients and clinicians.
- I emphasise that it is normal for people to recover from mental illness.
- My role is to embed Peer Support within the government mental health service.
