Esperance, WA
  • Control and maintain grain grids for receival at different Esperance depots.
  • Responsible for filling multiple grain storages.
  • Manage up to 10 other casuals.

Hydrology and Water Resource Management

Unit at UWA
  • Identify critical factors controlling runoff generation and assess runoff based on soil and rainfall properties.
  • Conduct water sampling and analyse properties such as salinity, pH, and ORP.
  • Apply this knowledge to practical environmental hydrology problems related to water resources, environmental flow allocation, and water quality and contamination issues in agricultural, urban, and mining impacted landscapes.

GIS/R Studio Programs

Units at UWA
  • Become familiar with computer programs such as GIS and R studio to be able to interpret and manipulate different types of data.
  • Apply a range of spatial processing techniques, including the use of spatial statistics, to assess both vector and raster datasets.
  • Communicate geospatial information using clear and informative mapping approaches that follow fundamental principles of cartography.

Soil Science/ Land Capability Assessment

Unit at UWA
  • Units which introduced applied skills through soil sampling and analysis by examining characteristics such as pH, structure and other chemical/physical properties to determine appropriate land uses based on soil formations.
  • Classification of soil properties in the field and use of laboratory techniques to determine physical and chemical soil properties such as: texture, water retention, pH and EC, phosphorus retention or cation exchange capacity.
  • Classify and map soils and landforms and relate these to land use and soil degradation such as salinisation, desertification and soil acidification. and finally perform a land capability assessment.
