My job was based on the early pregnancy and gynaecology ward in Ysbyty Gwynedd, North Wales.
We provided care mainly for women up to 17+6 weeks gestation and for women needing emergency gynaecology care, such as those suffering from chronic conditions like Endometriosis. I provided a high level of compassionate person centred care to the patient and their families in a very traumatic time. Dealing with emergency situations such as major haemorrhages was a very important part of the job and managing emergency situations in a calm manner.
We were also the gynaecology cancer centre for North Wales so provided pre and post operative care for women needing elective surgery for conditions such as ovarian, uterine and cervical cancer.
Caring for palliative cancer patients was also part of the role. This allowed me to develop skills such as using syringes drives and delivering palliative medications.
I was rotated to a mixed elective surgical ward for a year starting from January 2021. On this ward I cared for patients having Colorectal procedures, some elective orthopaedics surgeries and urology procedures.
I am competent in stoma care, stoma education for inpatients and their families, having worked with patients after having new stomas formed.
I am also competent in bladder irrigation following urology procedures.
On Ffrancon we would also get a mix of outliers from different specialities. I have experience caring for general surgical patient, orthopaedics patients, stable medical patients and patients who are medically fit for discharge awaiting further resources in the community.
