OVSRA Co-ordinator & OVP Trainer

  • I am currently acting in the OVSRA Coordinator role and provide capability as an OVP trainer for the Occupational Violence Prevention and Security Unit within Darling Downs Health
  • As part of this role, I have been tasked to coordinate and oversee the OVSRA program for all facilities, wards and units within Darling Downs Health
  • The OVSRA process involves conducting comprehensive risk assessments relating to occupational violence and security risks and formulating control measures to reduces hazards and impacts these may have on staff and patients
  • The OVP training aspect of my role involves the delivery of the Maybo program as the endorsed occupational violence prevention program for Darling Downs Health staff
  • I deliver face-to-face training of the program in different formats depending on the training requirements of staff
  • The training delivery requires pre and post admin documentation procedures and face-to-face workshops which incorporates PowerPoint lectures, physical instructing of techniques and skills and conformation of learning through observing and critiquing staff techniques and curriculum quizzes.

  • I was employed with Queensland Health as a Fire Safety and Security Officer
  • This was a 24/7 role requiring security officers to ensure the care and safety of all patients, visitors, and contractors during their time at the Toowoomba Base or Bailie Henderson Hospital
  • I was required to interact with a wide variety of people daily and must rely on my ability to communicate clearly, provide whatever assistance is necessary and to problem solve
  • I have performed fill in supervisor shifts in my time at the base hospital
  • These shifts involve being the primary point of contact for the Security guards (and staff) to make decisions on incidents that are currently occurring and to call in external assistance if required
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office applications such as MS Word & Excel
  • Through the creation of the OVSRA reports there is a built-in template within MS Word that needs to be completed, and then the reporting on the status of the sites OVSRA compliance involves the creation of Pivot Tables and charts within MS Excel
  • As part of the security supervisor role, I became adept at resolving employee issues in a professional manner
  • This was often in high emotional circumstances when people were angry or upset
  • I used my communication skills with the individuals in this situation and kept a calm demeanour to listen to all aspects of the issues before making an informed and educated decision
  • I do enjoy the people interactions that I have had in my security roles and I take the responsibility to make the staff and the patients/visitors that I have worked with and around have a positive experience with their stay at DDHHS.
