Work History

CNS - Urology

Surgical Ward
01.2023 - Current
  • Completed shifts as acting ANUM when required or rostered
  • Mentors to newer staff members by setting good example and ongoing education. Always available for assistance.
  • Educational power-point ready for presentation

As the Urology CNS in 2023 I initiated a Post Operative Retention Study. I recorded multiple post operative retention cases that occurred on the ward at the start of the year in order to find similarities and work out an intervention. At the time of recording intrathecal morphine was being used leading to 90% of of the retention rates. With these findings I was able to speak with the anaesthetist at the time who acknowledged this result and changed the policy to IDC insertion for ITM patients. This changed the retention rates significantly. I have also developed a educational power-point to educate the ward about post operative retention.

  • I deliver directed care as per orders and send referrals to the appropriate holistic team
  • When on duty some examples of the care I deliver to my patients include: assistance with ADL's, administration of medication, wound dressings, various documentations, post operative care, early detection of deteriorating patients, working with doctors/surgeons/patients and families to deliver the best possible care
  • As an advocate for my patients I am responsible for using my clinical knowledge to prioritise and administer to patients' care needs.
