Within this role I have been responsible for receipt of all equine and canine urine and blood samples from pre and post race meets throughout metropolitan and regional Queensland maintaining all aspects of thorough chain of custody protocols. All samples are logged within the LIMS system and then forwarded to the lab for testing. We also pack and ship all race meet kits and bags needed for all these race meets and ship them according to regions and race dates. A thorough and meticulous chain of custody record keeping is also maintained at all times.
I worked within the specimen reception department for QLD Pathology on a 24/7 rotation. I was responsible for all receipt of samples into the lab through to the eventual receipt within the appropriate department for testing. My role also included the packing and dispatching of all samples to referral labs or the head laboratory in Brisbane. I am proficient in the handling of all samples received into the lab from identification checks, centrifuging of samples, logging the samples into the IEMR hospital system and distribution to the relevant departments for testing. Samples ranged form blood, urine, stool, sputum, CSF, fluids and histology samples. I have also worked within the histology department for 12 months as a lab assistant and assisted with cut-up of the samples to blocking the samples. Over the last 2 years in this role I was also involved in the management of clinical trial samples ranging from the handling the samples according to each trials instructions to shipping of the samples both within Australia as well as internationally. Within my last year at Pathology QLD I was in a 9 month secondment role as the Specimen Reception 2IC which encompassed all areas of running CSR, staff interviews and hiring, training and also rostering and payroll. Prior to my 11 years within CSR I was a fulltime phlebotomist within Gold Coast Hospital working within the outpatients area and ward rounds.
I was a fulltime phlebotomist with my own clinic at Helensvale for 6 years followed by 4 years working within the Paradise Point clinic. i also worked at both Pindara and Allamanda hospitals on weekends as a phlebotomist. I am a highly qualified and skilled phlebotomist in all areas of collections.
