  • Construction of 1 road bridge over road – this was the highly relevant Stapley Drive Bridge (four-span bridge at 97.3m long x 27m wide, built over the live M1 motorway).
  • Construction of 7 new Concrete Retaining Walls with the main wall RW-07 constructed between Rail Corridor and Existing M1 which included bored piles.
  • Demolition of the two road bridges over creeks using conventional mechanical demolition.
  • Demolition of the Stapley Drive Bridge (two-span bridge) using conventional mechanical demolition. Involved in the re-sequencing of the construction of new Stapley Drive Bridge and M1 traffic staging to enable offline demolition of the existing Stapley Drive Bridge which was originally planned for demolition over live M1 Motorway

  • My managing role was hands on, due to staff inexperience and given the substantial expansion of the plant.
  • Oversaw concrete pouring/ finishing/ repairing, concrete pipe laying/ joining from 225mm -3000mm diameter, concrete cutting/ drilling, welding reinforcement (mig/tig) and fabrication of steel components to Australian Standards/TMR&RMS specifications. Proficient in operation of prestressed concrete stressing beds.

Key Achievements:

  • Successfully delivered over 4,000 prestress bridge beams for Hay Point Expansion on time and on budget.
  • Successfully Project Manage delivery of plant expansion on time and on budget.

Lessons Learned:

  • Due to the mining boom in Mackay staff availability was extremely difficult to manage as the company struggled to compete with salaries that mining companies were offering. Learned the value of having long term employees within the team.
  • Learnt the importance of having the correct blend of experienced employees with new employees.
