I come from a big family in rural Taiwan — the youngest of eight children, with five elder sisters and two elder brothers. Life wasn’t easy, even in childhood. With limited resources and many responsibilities, I learned to be strong and adaptable. I developed independence, resilience, and an optimistic mindset — along with a deep appreciation for every opportunity that came my way. At 50, I challenged myself by obtaining the English-speaking Tour Leader Qualification — even though my spoken English was still limited at the time. I saw it not just as a certificate, but as a symbol of my courage to step outside my comfort zone. That experience planted the seed for my current journey: to finally become confident in English and connect with people from around the world. At the age of 53, after years of balancing work and family responsibilities, I finally fulfilled a long-held dream by earning my bachelor’s degree in Management & Information Systems from National Open University. It was not easy — I studied extremely hard and graduated with excellent academic performance. Just last month, as a 55th birthday gift to myself, I passed the test and received my commercial driver’s license — another milestone that proves it’s never too late to learn something new. Now, I’m ready to fully commit to this goal. I have enrolled in a full-time General English course at International House Brisbane-ALS, starting this August. My dream is not only to improve my English skills, but also to grow as a person — through cultural exchange, new friendships, and perhaps future opportunities in singing, volunteering, working, or even guiding others again. I look forward to bringing my energy, life experience, and open-minded spirit to this journey and to learning from the diverse people I will meet along the way.
