  • Lead "incorrectly labelled copper compression sleeve" investigation, risk assessment and stakeholder engagement
  • Processes and accountability for this type of risk were not clearly defined and I therefore needed to outwork this with a number of key stakeholders to ensure action was taken to minimise the associated risk
  • Wrote key standards alerts on determination of tip loads of poles with pole nails and checks/splits in softwood poles
  • Engaged and negotiated with union and field representatives in distribution improvement forums to enable required changes in standards to be implemented
  • Represented the team at composite fibre pole testing in Newcastle, Non-destructive wood pole testing in Port Macquarie and CIGRE Conference in Cairns
  • Developed key workshops across teams to enable effective cross workgroup collaboration
  • Established monthly female engineer uplifting sessions with a small group of other female engineers with keen interest in the overhead power network including enabling continued learning from an industry recognised power pole expert with over 45 years’ experience
  • These sessions have been successful in fostering an environment to build each other up and share technical knowledge through presentations and discussion topics.

Asset Lifecycle Planning Engineer

Energy Queensland
01.2018 - 01.2019
  • Established the first combined Energy Queensland CBRM (Condition Based Risk Management) model for Underground Cables
  • This was made feasible through the engagement of data subject matter expects who I worked with closely to facilitate the alignment of data from Ergon Energy and Energex legacy systems into one data output utilising FME (feature manipulation engine)
  • The data requirements were scoped to allow for further expansion into overhead lines, which has since been successfully included
  • My work established a proven approach that was transferable to CBRM models for other asset classes
  • Worked with technical experts from across EQL including Standards teams, Asset Portfolio Optimisation, Grid Planning and Optimisation and Asset Lifecycle Management to ensure underground cable attributes and failure modes were adequately represented and calibrated in the model
  • To enable this I ran a number of workshops to lead data experts in providing data that I was able to process and transform to enable it to be appropriate for the use in the CBRM analytics
  • The data frameworks created through these workshops set the foundations for data wrangling requirements for other CBRM models
  • Developed the first Energy Queensland Asset Management Plan for Pole Top Structures in which I consolidated lifecycle management policies, procedures and improvement opportunities to support the AER submission
  • Prepared supporting documentation for the AER submission process to justify forecast programs of work to sustainably manage network risk and cost
  • Played an integral role in helping to establish and improve team engagement and communication
  • I facilitated monthly virtual morning teas for team bonding purposes and introduced the team to the use of Microsoft planner and teams prior to the roll out of Windows 10.

Asset Lifecycle Substations Engineer

Energy Queensland
01.2016 - 01.2018
  • Successful alignment and reallocation of Strategic Spares roles across Asset Lifecycle Management (ALM) business units including running collaboration sessions, documentation and presentations to key stakeholder groups outside of ALM
  • Led the development of sophisticated spreadsheet analytics tools used to determine the optimum number of strategic spares required to minimise the risk of not having a spare available when required to less than 10%
  • Determined minimum spares holdings requirements for critical assets such as power transformers, circuit breakers and instrument transformers
  • Led the engagement sessions with asset managers and other key stakeholders to present findings and successfully work through any issues highlighted.

Substation Maintenance Standards Engineer

Ergon Energy
01.2014 - 01.2016
  • Overhauled the management of Strategic Spares, consolidated current practices, found improvement opportunities, and established an overall vision
  • This included writing the protocol for the management of strategic spares
  • Drove the implementation of a new hierarchy in the Equipment register to enable visibility for maintenance purposes
  • Established sophisticated spares reports that are easily accessible, user friendly and provide all data required on spares assets including available photos
  • Led a state-wide audit of strategic spares holdings, requiring successful engagement of remote and local staff to locate spares, take photos, obtain nameplate data and update corporate data systems within budgetary constraints
  • This significantly improved the spares data, including providing location details and capturing a large number of power transformer holdings (40%) that did not exist in the asset management register
  • Engaged and negotiated with inventory and warehousing management on behalf of Asset Management to develop and implement improved systems and processes in the capture and utilisation of strategic spares
  • This delivered business efficiencies in routine management as well as ensured spares were readily available in the event of an emergency
  • Acted Area Asset Engineer Central (6 weeks) where I was responsible for undertaking complex engineering analysis, reviewing viable options for engineering projects and solving operational problems and asset related incidents.

Substation Standards Engineer – Condition Analysis

Ergon Energy
01.2010 - 01.2014
  • Played a lead role in the development, training and roll out of the first handheld digital Joint Asset Maintenance Investigation Tool (JAMIT)
  • This standardised substation maintenance across all regions and provided a more efficient way to capture and analyse the data obtained
  • Developed and promoted the business case for condition monitoring software to replace existing outdated software, increase analytic capabilities and enable the implementation of online condition monitoring hardware.

Graduate Electrical Engineer

Ergon Energy

  • The Ergon Energy graduate program was a structured program designed to expose graduates to a range of development opportunities and business units to enable a broad understanding of the industry and enhance technical capability.

Education

Bachelor of Engineering (Co-op) With First Class Honours - Electrical Engineering

Central Queensland University
Rockhampton, QLD
07.2006

Skills

  • System Design
  • Root Cause Analysis
  • System Troubleshooting
  • Process Improvement

Professional Accomplishments

  • Unassisted Pole Failure Analysis: Conducted detailed data analysis on unassisted pole failures to provide insight into why unassisted failure rates are above the minimum three year moving average reliability threshold of 99.99% per annum. Developed key understanding in pole serviceability assessment calculations for determining pole condition. Established data frameworks for analysis of pole population attributed in relation to failure modes to minimise manual handling of data. Communicated my findings through presentations and summary emails to the Executive General Manager and the Engineering Leadership Team. Found smaller poles (3kN and 5kN WS), Natural Round and CCA H3 treated poles in Western Areas to be the highest contributors to pole failure rates. Storms also played a role in poles that failed within two years of inspection. Improved tracking and knowledge of unassisted pole failures led to focused reporting metrics, replacement strategies, risk approaches and reduced pole failures in 2022/23.
  • Asset Lifecycle Management: Consolidated existing asset lifecycle practices, drew together key stakeholder knowledge, identified asset life limiting factors and analysed corporate risk and asset data trends of Pole Top Structures. Documented improvement opportunities and identified best practices to meet business objectives for the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) submission.
  • Fostered Engagement: In times of extensive change due to companywide systems replacements (DEBBs) and a global pandemic (COVID 19). I established ways to support and engage team members across multiple locations and working environments (including working from home). Some notable examples that impacted differing levels of the organisation include: Virtual morning teas, Virtual Christmas in July, Advent Calendar to showcase 2020 team success, Virtual Team Escape Rooms, learning/upskilling sessions, and fun chat environment for Engineering Data Solutions. Change Curve activities at team brief and R U OK day presentation on my own heartfelt emotional journey highlighting “It is OK not to be OK” for Grid Investment. Organising and helping facilitate Resilience training for multiple Engineering Division staff located in Rockhampton. This enabled me to create the foundation required to maintain a productive high performing, collaborative team who were engaged and resilient. It contributed to a 5% increase in Engagement Survey score for the Engineering Data Solutions team in 2021.
