My first job was at KFC in Umina in 1983 then i moved to KMart until i had finished school and then took on a position as a welder building commercial sized cooling towers for shopping centres etc and i put myself through Tafe gaining my Pressure Welding Ticket and several years later was offered a job in the telecommunications industry and so began 20 years of telecommunications related work until moving to Moranbah to work as Driver Supervisor for Greyhound Australia before being offered a position within BMA as a prestrip operator
I have approximately 200 hrs on the Komatsu 930E
My role as driver supervisor was to organize an 8 man crew for either a morning or afternoon shift change on a coal mine in central Queensland, with daily duties including safety Prestart meetings to discuss safety events regarding the coal mine and driving conditions and any issues with our fleet of buses .
Some other duties included mentoring, integrating new staff members training and support and as i lived in town and most of the crew stayed at a camp near the mine i would have the crew over my house for Bbq's and a swim in the pool which was great for team building and comradery amongst the group as a "happy worker is a good worker".
i also introduced simpler processes with our data recording and limited the amount of paperwork required by each driver for there daily run.
My daily duties included erecting aerial copper and optical fibre on the national telecommunications network as well as jointing of telstra copper cables and wiring of the NBN Nodes, contracting to companies such as Telstra, Isgm, Visionstream and Downer among others.
I have been in a position in life to meet many people from all walks of life and i find it very interesting to know and get to know people that i have the opportunity to engage during my days, and i have people are the greatest asset in anyone's life, so as a supervisor i found the job important i found getting to know my staff and theres strengths and using this to improve work loads but also create harmony and comradery amongst the group and i found this to work well for my crew
