I have immersed myself in the role of Leading Firefighter and Acting Station Officer working at various Fire Stations in the Greater Sydney Area. I have established experience in performing the role of Incident Controller, Operations Officer, Sector Commander and Hazmat Commander at numerous fires, rescues and hazardous material incidents.

While managing unfamiliar crews both permanent and retained, participating in the training and development of Fire Fighters and leading by example to instil our Core Values.

  • Implementing community safety and resilience enhancements to identified risk groups within the community, using the Station Planning System and Prime program. Initiated and actively engaged with community groups by completing Home Fire Safety Checks.
  • Delivering training to firefighters, using the Station Training Program and maintaining skill sets through practical drills.
  • Managing the administration, equipment, stores and finance of the fire station.
  • Developing strong relationships with stakeholders.
  • Deployed to regional areas during floods and bushfires to assist with incident response and recovery operations.

During my time at Mt Druitt Fire Station as a Qualified Firefighter I attended a large number of structure fires, worked in a diverse community participating in education programs and operational readiness through pre-incident planning. Gained my Hazmat Technicians qualification and rank of Senior Fire Fighter while working at St Marys Fire Station. During this time I developed my leadership skills, knowledge of Fire and Rescue NSW policies, procedures and legislation.

  • Ensuring the continual operational readiness by carrying out maintenance of appliances and equipment.
  • Servicing and maintaining BA cylinders and hazmat detectors.
  • Supervised and mentored junior firefighters to help maintain their operational readiness and complete studies for career progression.

Key Achievements

  • Demonstrated strong leadership as an acting station officer deployed to Lismore during the 2022 floods, leading a HAZMAT crew responding to hazardous material incidents and playing a vital role in the recovery of the community.
  • Engaged support services to assist crew members dealing with critical incidents and personal issues.
  • Organised and delivered Home Fire Safety Education Programs to diverse at risk community groups while working at Penrith Fire Station in 2022 as an acting station officer.
  • After attending structure fires in various station areas, I actively prepared resources, crews and time to conduct Reactive Home Fire Safety Visits. Using various technologies to gather and record information.
  • Showed a strong command presence, communication and incident command skills, as the HAZMAT Commander during a multiagency counter terrorism training exercise at the Emergency Services Academy in 2021. Building relationships with other emergency services.
  • During the 2020 Bushfires I deployed to the south coast of NSW to assist the community in the recovery phase, using my skills and knowledge to deal with hazardous materials and offered support to community members dealing with the trauma of loosing homes and businesses.
  • I was awarded the Commissioners Group Citation after rescuing residents trapped during the 2013 Bushfires, showing courage, professionalism and leadership in a time critical stressful situation.
  • Awarded the Commissioners Merit Award (Silver Axe Award) at my recruit graduation in 2006. From the start of my career I was highly motivated and worked well in teams.
