I am a compassionate and detail-oriented Registered Midwife with nine years of experience in both the public and private sectors of Adelaide, SA, working with pregnant women/people and their families of varying complexities and needs across all areas of midwifery. I have a particular interest in antenatal care and assessment, having spent the past two years of my career working within the Women's Assessment Service at the Women's and Children's Hospital (WCH), working closely with the medical team sharing common goals of providing excellent maternity care to every woman/person who utilises the service.

  • Providing safe and woman-centred midwifery care across all aspects of the maternity journey from early pregnancy, antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal while adhering to the Midwife National Standards for Practice.
  • Able to work effectively and efficiently in a multidisciplinary team environment, ensuring that a high level of communication is met between fellow colleagues, birthing women/people and their families.
  • Able to provide safe administration of varied type of medications, ensuring adherence to infection control guidelines.
  • Have a thorough understanding of management of obstetric emergency situations such as; maternal collapse, post-partum haemorrhage, shoulder dystocia and cord prolapse through regular training which includes Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Life Support (ALS) and Practical Obstetric Multi-Professional Training (PROMPT).

  • Worked cohesively in a small, private maternity ward environment with fellow midwives, nurses, private obstetricians, private paediatricians, anaesthetists and physiotherapists.
  • Provided safe and effective midwifery care to women and their babies during their entire stay at the hospital, beginning with initial labour assessment, intrapartum care, transition to the postnatal ward and providing breastfeeding and infant care education for both parents/caregivers, including care of babies in the Special Care Nursery for premature babies born after 33 weeks gestation, and any other infant requiring special care.
  • Performed general midwifery skills on a regular basis in conjunction with more advanced skills, including; performing artificial rupture of membranes, applying foetal scalp electrodes, insertion of prostaglandin gels or Cervadil, and assisting paediatricians with neonatal resuscitation and insertion of neonatal IV cannulas.
  • Occasionally caring for general nursing patients both on the maternity ward and in other areas of the hospital.
  • Attending regular mandatory and non-mandatory on-site training sessions as well as keeping all online learning up to date as required.

A role working within the postnatal ward of the Women's and Children's Hospital, in addition to my regular contracted hours, where I recruited women to take part in a study undertaken by SAHMRI (South Australian Health & Medical Research Institute). The role involved;

  • Speaking to families of term born, singleton infants
  • Asking families screening questions to determine eligibility
  • Offering participation should the family be eligible and interested
  • Obtaining written informed consent and contact information
