Work History

Research Specialist

Genome Innovation Hub, The University of Queensland
St Lucia, QLD
09.2018 - Current
  • Designed and conducted independent experiments to achieve project goals evidenced by the completion of 10 GIH projects worth AUD 120K in the assigned timeframe which contributed to securing 1 ARC-DP grant worth AUD 400K and 4 publications
  • Optimised and developed methods for high-quality DNA/RNA extraction from various resources for multiple sequencing technologies, their library preparation, quality control, and sequencing in Oxford Nanopore Technology (ONT) platform while developing, refining, and documenting SOPs (10+)
  • Led GIH projects (5) valued at AUD 130K in parallel as well as giving training on basic molecular biology, DNA/RNA extraction techniques, sequencing library preparation and sequencing instrument operation training to other staffs and collaborators for innovative and optimal use of sequencing technology
  • Helped 50+ collaborators to develop and optimise sample and library preparation methods to tune optimal performance and high-quality data from Next Generation Sequencing platforms
  • Actively contributed to the GIH team recognition evidenced by awarding GIH for "Team Excellence 2021" by UQ-DVCR.

Research Staff

Institute for Molecular Bioscience, The University of Queensland
St Lucia, QLD
03.2017 - 09.2018
  • Troubleshoot and optimised protocols for DNA and RNA extraction from marine snails that are compatible with all next-generation sequencing platforms.
  • Optimised and performed multi-omics data analysis (DNA-seq, RNA-seq, and proteomics) pipeline to study conesnail’s venom genomics and transcriptomics, resulting in 3 publications.
  • Developed plans to execute agreed-upon research projects within budget and time requirements.
  • Supervised master’s thesis students in genomics with successful completion.

Research Scientist/Marie Curie Research Fellow

Riboxx GmbH
Radebeul, Dresden, Saxony, Germany
10.2011 - 10.2014
  • Developed research hypotheses and designed, conducted, and analysed experimental studies while characterising viral proteins and RNA regulatory elements using classical molecular biology, recombinant DNA technology, biochemical assays, genomics, and bioinformatics resulting in the identification of two potential antiviral drug targets for the pre-clinical antiviral drug development studies.
  • Helped the R&D team recognise over €50K EU-project grant by successfully completing.
  • Negotiated with the company and the supervisors for the inclusion of scientific findings to produce a doctoral dissertation while maintaining research data confidentiality.
