Redlands Hospital - Emergency Department (320hrs - in progress) 

• Developed my ability to adapt and prioritise tasks in a dynamic clinical setting; ranging from highly acute medical, mental health, paediatrics to sub-acute fast-paced outpatient system
• Expanded my communication strategies to improve compliance when working with paediatric patients,
• Encouraged family involvement in medication administration such as salbutamol and educated on the therapeutic/adverse effects
• Independently conducted primary survey assessments and applied critical thinking skills to the use of facility care pathways in the management of deteriorating patients; including but not limited to those presenting with chest pain, abdominal pain, and UTIs.

Mater Private Hospital Redlands - Medical/Rehabilitation Ward (320 hrs)

• Independently managed a 3-4 patient load within the framework of a team nursing based ward.
• Developed organisational skills e.g. updating shift planners and consistent verbal communication specifically in a team environment
• Recognized deterioration of my patient, initiated a MET call and participated in handover to attending medical officers

• Learnt the pathophysiology of different cardiac arrhythmias and applied this knowledge to help interpret ECGs, monitor telemetry and improve medication safety
• Educated patients on the side effects of anticoagulants, antihypertensives, and diuretics to improve compliance and prevent medication related falls/accidents

Mater Private Hospital South Brisbane - Surgical Ward (80hrs) 

• Learnt to effectively communicate the types of medications being administered to patients and carers for safety and reassurance
• Developed the ability to undertake basic nursing skills with confidence, including oral and subcutaneous medication administration, monitoring patients’ observations and escalating appropriately based on clinical signs

Belmont Private Hospital (48hrs) 

• Gained better understanding on the determinants of health that impact any individual’s mental health in society. This greatly aided in broadening my perspective of different mental health conditions allowing a more empathetic and understanding conversation, leading to an improvement in interpersonal communication skills.
