• Working in a 75 bed, mixed care residential home with lower care needs to dementia specific care.
• Taking responsibility for and ensuring the health and safety of staff and residents, updating care plan records and office documentation, reporting health and safety concerns, overseeing staff roles and duties, ordering and administering medication, ensuring health and cleanliness standards, checking and recording vital signs
• Working alongside nursing staff and other healthcare professionals to ensure a high standard delivery of care
• Involvement in day care activities and resident and family meetings
• Liaising with occupational therapists and assisting them to carry out therapeutic and group centred activities.

Chemotherapy support worker.

On ward- Providing high quality care to individuals during complex chemotherapy treatments, taking and documenting observations - blood pressure heart rate and temperatures. Taking bloods, answering calls and following health and safety within the ward.

Working alongside nursing and other health care staff. Reception-

Answering calls, documenting weights and heights. Reporting and communicating with patients doctors and healthcare team.

Duties/responsibilities.:

• As part of the nursing team, provide the full spectrum of care for patients including washing, dressing, toileting, exercise and companionship with the aim of promoting independence, comfort and dignity where possible.
• To assist patients in feeding/drinking and be aware of the diversity of special dietary requirements and the frequent changes to swallowing mechanisms
• To observe and report to registered nursing staff any alteration in patients’ condition.
• Be aware of the diversity of patients’ preferences according to physical, cultural or other factors.
• Attend to last offices, transfer of body to mortuary and ensure the safe uplift by undertakers.
• Answer telephone in courteous manner, responding appropriately to requests and relaying information accurately and promptly to both the caller and the multiprofessional team.
• Maintain accurate, pertinent and current documentation of specific aspects of patients’ care e.g. dietary and fluid intake, routine care needs.
• Escort patients to other departments/health care settings as requested by trained nurse.
• Obtain specimens and test as requested, in accordance with Hospice policy
• Participate in extended role after suitable education and supervision in accordance with Hospice policy
• Accompany registered staff during care and undertake a wide range of duties to support them in the delivery of safe patient care.
• Support patients’ relatives and visitors, enabling them to achieve their preferred level of involvement in the caring process.
• Practice highest standards of Control of Infection measures to combat HAI in the hospice
• Adhere to the standard Infection Control Policy with regard to cleaning and care of equipment, laundry and facilities.
• Competently adhere to Moving and handling guidelines in accordance with Hospice policy
• Act as a key worker for areas of special interest such as moving and handling, infection control, hand and foot massage
• Check and report ward equipment failures/ property damage as per hospice guidelines.
• Undertake some clerical duties, including ordering and replenishing stock.
• Be involved with the ordering and replenishing of ward stock.
• Work within Hospice policies and procedure to ensure safe working practices for patients, colleagues, visitors and volunteers.
