I am experienced in the mental health field and have both professional and lived experience as a carer to a consumer. I have worked with diverse clients and families facing unique diagnoses. I have a deep understanding of services as a mental health professional and mother to a son with mental health diagnosis. I am passionate about improving support for carers like myself. I have personal experience navigating the challenges of supporting a loved one's illness. I have a strong empathy for families and carers in similar situations and have worked in a number of support roles .I believe strongly that as Carers we need to care for ourselves first and foremost to be able to care for others. After many years of living in Melbourne we have made the decision to move regionally.
I am happily married with four grown children and two Labradors.
My role at PARCS is supporting clients in Psycho-social rehabilitation, it is intensive, short-term recovery centred and client focused work.
The role involves setting a recovery plan with clients and supporting them to achieve personal goals to aide their recovery.
Often this will be work around improving their activities of daily living and resocialization.
An important part is also referring them to ongoing support services in the community on return home.
I believe that I am a good communicator, and I enjoy working as part of a team. I strongly believe that Recovery in mental health is a journey and is always possible. I am passionate about using the experiences that I have been through with my son to help other families and Carers. To help them to understand what is happening to their loved one and to help ensure that they are heard in treatment , planning and able to offer invaluable expertise. And to ensure that families and carers are supported during what can be one of the most difficult times of their lives.
