As Bar Manager at Palm Bay Resort for the last 7-8 months I got the opportunity to develop myself in the industry in an aspect I had not experienced with a unique work environment. During my time leading the bar team in the resort I spearheaded and completed tasks and provided high quality work under sometimes high levels of pressure. Some of the tasks and situations follow:

  • I led a team of 9-10 staff while rotating in new staff quite often as there was a big backpacker culture in the area.
  • Led staff trainings for multiple aspects of the bar including barista work, cocktail training & floor service and etiquette.
  • Designed weekly cocktails specials to help push less demanded alcohol.
  • Delegated the bar, floor and pass in the kitchen regularly under high pressure services whilst communicating to the head chef and kitchen team.
  • Overseen the success of two weddings with the approximate attendance of 80-90 which led to a 5 star review from 95% of attendees which left official reviews.
  • During the wedding event I was designated to take care of the groom and make sure his whole experience was as comfortable as possible. Tasks would have involved personal collection via golf buggy to the reception, room drop offs at designated times as he had my personal contact and overseeing the dinner service for all 3 days of the event including the wedding ceremony dinner.
  • Working alongside the kitchen developing special dishes for the evening depending on what local vendors had in stock.
  • Developed incredibly strong bonds with the team I worked with and have created relationships that will be life long.
  • When my general manager was off island the I was left in charge of the general operation of the island.
  • I completed weekly stock orders from multiple vendors which needed to be ordered in a timely manner as delivery slots to the island were not daily.
  • Trained and handed over the whole department’s operation once I had interviewed and found a responsible replacement.
  • Adhered to state laws regarding alcoholic beverage services and customer regulations.
  • Handled conflict resolution among staff members promptly and professionally, maintaining a positive work environment.
