Within the Regional Executive Services function, I work to develop, implement, and review new and existing policies, frameworks, and services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations using a cultural lens. I provide cultural brokerage consultation, advice, and guidance to close the gap on Indigenous health. At a local, state, and national level, I also serve as a leader within the organisation to Aboriginal staff, foster consumer engagement, and build capacity with key stakeholders.
As a highly experienced Aboriginal Health Consultant, I have spent more than 20 years managing and developing Aboriginal relationships, driving social and cultural determinants of health outcomes and overseeing positive Indigenous outcomes on various strategies, policies and frameworks across the Goldfields and previously metropolitan areas of Western Australia. I have deep understanding of Aboriginal communities, peoples, and work with communities to ensure that Aboriginal health wellbeing, impact, and outcomes are central to all service delivery, policies, frameworks, and governance committees. I am committed to challenging existing ideas and providing innovative and creative strategies to improve health across the Goldfields region using my cultural lens. It is my passion and role to train Aboriginal-led workforces to be competent, confident, and inclusive of Aboriginal ways of being and doing while balancing Westernised and cultural practices and healing. The goal of my work is to reduce health inequities and maximise opportunities by creating a platform where Aboriginal voices can be heard to improve health and wellbeing outcomes. I aim to improve systems and processes so that Aboriginal people have better access to culturally responsive services. My area of expertise includes cultural governance, culture security, cultural safety, and support for developing culturally competent workers. It has been a rewarding experience for me to work for health service providers within government and non-profit sectors throughout the state, and I have gained knowledge that can help others. In the past 14 years, I have worked in non-government Aboriginal organisations and government health service providers and as one of the few senior Aboriginal women in the health sector and in a leadership role, I have influenced cultural safety and well-being to improve the provision of health services offered by the Australian healthcare system.
