  • Drilling operations involved; Basic arc welding, Oxy cutting, profile cutting, maintaining drilling fluid levels, dogging, collection/organisation of drill samples for hydrologist team, cementing of water bore pads, servicing, maintenance and repairs of the rig and support vehicles

  • February 2011 I was elected as the rig safety representative by the crew.

Emergency Co-ordination Centre (ECC) Senior watch member

  • Posted to HMAS Stirling navy base as the Emergency Co-ordination Centre (ECC) junior watch member, being the first point of contact for all emergency situations throughout the base in a 2 watch rotation of an 11 hour day and 13 hour night watch.
  • Promoted to watch supervisor after one month by demonstrating position knowledge and taking charge whilst staying in control of all emergency situations that occurred during this time.
  • Co-ordinating defence emergency services including Fire, Medical, Naval police and defence personnel along with civilian emergency services to emergency situations throughout the Stirling establishment including hazardous substance spills, fire alarms and a motor vehicle accidents.
  • Working with senior management and emergency service personnel on improving emergency procedures.
  • Assist training for junior members.

COMMUNICATIONS – SHIPS DIVER

HMAS Arunta
08.2006 - 07.2009
  • Took up a communications role on HMAS Arunta, an ANZAC class vessel crewed by more than 160 personnel based at HMAS Stirling
  • Communication operations, safety management, daily maintenance and mustering of highly classified equipment and information
  • Coordinated ship movements with local port authorities and acted as the Communications Manager during emergencies onboard the ship
  • Deployed to the Persian Gulf for 6 months under arduous conditions in an extremely high-pressure position as the ships boarding party communications member. Conducted boarding’s and searches of large merchant vessels, oil tankers, offshore oil rigs and small fishing vessels for security purposes. This position involved a high level of situational awareness due to the possible volatile environment. This position also involved working with many different cultures due to the number of international vessels being searched which added an extra element of remaining sensitive and knowledgeable of other cultural and beliefs systems to be able to properly interact together safely and securely whilst still conducting our job to the highest standard
  • Conducted multiple diving operations during the Persian Gulf deployment including security sweeps of oil platforms, successful searches for lost equipment and underwater maintenance reports for the engineering department onboard HMAS Arunta. This was a voluntary but highly sort position within the ship’s crew.
  • Toward the end of my tenure, ran the communications centre onboard and supervised 2 junior staff.

COMMUNICATIONS – SEAMANSHIP

HMAS Fremantle
08.2005 - 08.2006
  • Joined HMAS Fremantle, based in Darwin, an aging, now decommissioned Fremantle class patrol boat with a small team of between fifteen to twenty personnel at any given time
  • Given additional roles and responsibilities beyond communications due to our small team yet large work load including successful completion of helmsman training, conducting engine room rounds and a large emphasis on maintenance due to the age of the ship
  • Conducted several northern border security operations of suspected illegal entry vessels and illegal fishing vessels.

INITIAL RECRUIT TRAINING – TECHNICAL TRAINING

  • Successfully completed an intensive 12 week defence recruit program. Formally trained in teamwork, leadership, appraising work situations, problem solving, oral and written communication, employing initiative, presentation skills, first aid, OHS and planning. Subsequently graduated a further 12 month communications training program encompassing a broad spectrum of IT and communication topics. Gained exposure to resource supervision, administration, customer service, office administration and conflict resolution skills.
