  • Calculated dead load, live load and wind load acting on various elements of a residential dwelling such as lintels, beams, columns, rafters, ridge beams, walls and footing as per Australian Standards AS 1170.0, AS1170.1 and AS 1170.2.
  • Designed and drafted timber and steel structural elements using Australian standards and codes such as AS1720.1 and AS4100.
  • Carried out strength and serviceability analysis of structural elements of Australian Residential Dwellings using engineering software such as SpaceGass and Structural Toolkit.
  • Analysed, designed, and drafted various types of footings used in Australian residential projects using AS2870 according to the requirements of the various site conditions as well as the architectural considerations such as step downs and ups in the floor level, available subfloor
    height when designing subfloor elements.
  • Drafted timber connection details compliant with AS1720.1, AS1684.2, and AS1684.3. Drafted
    footing plans and details compliant with AS2870, including the important notes relevant to the founding depth, tree effect, cut and fill impact on site.
  • Considered architectural aspects and buildability challenges in my designs, some of which are:
    o Ensuring the specified sizes for elements fit within the height/space above the opening
    and fit within the thickness of walls - Not specifying 2/240X63 hySPAN in a 90mm thick timber stud wall.
    o Considering mortar thickness when specifying the lintel thickness in a brick wall – i.e. not specifying 150X90X16 UA as the 16mm thickness can make the mortar thickness
    inconsistent.
    o Ensuring the proposed subfloor elements, such as bearers and floor joists, can fit within the proposed subfloor space shown in the architectural design and, if due to the minimum clearance required from the bottom of the bearer to the ground (150mm in areas not exposed to termite attack and 400mm in areas prone to termite attack), instead of running the joists over the bearers, connecting them into the bearer.
  • Carried out designs efficiently and effectively by strategically balancing the design time with the
    practical impact on the structure.
