  • Cases that I have been involved in include: Revascularization procedures on and off pump, Valve replacements, Ventricular assist device insertions, Heart and lung transplantations, Video assisted and thoracotomy lung procedures, Electrophysiological procedures
  • The workload in this specialty has given me the confidence and experience in scrubbing for elective and emergent procedures, in patients whom are very ill
  • The time critical nature of these procedures also mean that I have had the opportunity to develop skills to quickly organize numerous equipments and suture materials in a limited timeframe
  • Working closely with many surgeons, perfusionists and anaesthesia team.

  • In order to gain more experience in hybrid procedures, I applied to be seconded to the cardiac catheterization laboratory for 6 months
  • I obtained great experience in working with different percutaneous procedures including: Cardiac catheterizations, Percutaneous Valve replacements, including transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), Electrophysiological procedures
  • This experience also provided me with knowledge on more minimally invasive procedures and consolidate my knowledge on cardiac surgery.
