Rebecca has been working as a photographer for many years, mainly focusing on portraits and weddings. However, she has recently earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Indigenous Studies, at the University of Wollongong, indicating a shift in career paths. Rebecca currently volunteers as a Telephone Crisis Supporter at Lifeline, where she has been able to apply skills in mental health awareness. In this role, she has shown proficiency in offering empathetic support and managing crises, which has helped in establishing trust with callers in a compassionate way. Moreover, she has demonstrated abilities in active listening and assisting callers in finding resilience during challenging times, while also maintaining client confidentiality. These skills will enable her to contribute to any organisation in the future, as she continues to learn how to assist those in need to the best of her ability.
I have recently completed my Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Psychology and a minor in Indigenous Studies. I thoroughly enjoyed this new direction in my life and feel I have much to offer. I consider myself a calm and compassionate individual who understands the importance of boundaries. The training at Lifeline has been excellent, and the 1.5 years I have been on the phone volunteering have given me invaluable experience in dealing with many different situations. I start my mornings with a swim; either at my local beach or a rock pool. I also enjoy practising yoga, sipping coffee, and going op-shopping. I live in Kiama with my partner Tom, our two daughters, and Ripley, our Jack Russell.
