  • Engage and manage stakeholders in relation to information and data gathering, report design, testing, deployment and oversee ongoing production and analysis to ensure data integrity and data quality.

  • Predictive Analytics of Crashes in NSW: Built a predictive model (using Random Forest Regression) using variables (Day of Week | time of Day | type of day (e.g. Holiday day or double demerit) | section of M1) to help analysts understand likely crash risk by day and time of day.
  • Study on Vehicle Safety Features and Crashes: This study examined the impact of specific advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) on road safety.
  • Unmatched Serious Injuries Modelling: The purpose of this predictive AI model was to understand the location details of the crashes for which the serious injuries data, from hospitals, did not have a matching Police record.

  • The rationale behind developing the productivity costing modelling tool is due to below reasons:- Current pay conditions impose significant financial costs on roster changes and overtime.
  • In FY21 (Jun-Dec) about $15m or 7% of total driver / guard labour costs (~ $29m annualised) were related to excess shifts and extended hours.
  • Schedules are being optimised to achieve the lowest overall shift count but current rostering tools do not provide a financial optimisation that considers other cost drivers such as lift-up, lay-back, build up and mileage etc.
  • A manual tool is available to cost master Baseline schedules and daily schedules but requires upgrades.
  • The financial impact of roster changes during the lifecycle (master, period, daily, actual payment) cannot currently be quantified and compared.
  • Pay rules are complex and payroll data does not provide the granularity to identify the financial impact of scheduling and rostering decisions.
  • Scenario modelling to optimise schedules and rosters has to rely on limited financial indicators (shift counts).
  • There is a lack of financial reporting and the efficiency of scheduling and rostering functions is difficult to assess and manage.
  • The objective of this project is to create a productivity costing model to enable better financial management of train crew labour costs.
