Serena El Dakkour

I am a projected 2024 UTS Bachelor of Midwifery alum seeking to apply for the role of a New Graduate Midwife in NSW. I am a highly motivated student midwife dedicated to evidence based and woman-centred care. I am excited to become a Registered midwife and demonstrate my capabilities within the healthcare environment.

• Completion of over 1000 hours across Antenatal Clinic, Birth unit, Post Natal Ward, Day Assessment Unit, Special Care Nursery and Operating Theatres.
• Expected completion of 20 Continuity of Care Experiences (CoMCE) by November 2024 with different parity's, socioeconomic backgrounds and needs to widen learning experiences.
• Empowered woman and their families through advocacy, support and effective communication within multidisciplinary teams through clinical handover using ISBAR.
• Promoted woman centered care at all times and respected women's choices and decisions.
• Provided evidence based midwifery advice directed by NSW Health policies and guidelines, ACM standards and NMBA standards for practice.
• Worked together with midwives to confidently lead routine antenatal and booking appointments independently.
• Promoted physiological processes that enhance maternal and neonatal outcomes through understanding hormonal physiology.
• Delivered labour and birth care for women with minimal assistance.
• Recognised emergency situations and managed accordingly.
• Promoted, supported and encouraged breastfeeding by adherence to the world Health Organisation and the Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative.
• Demonstrated ability to learn and use electronic medical systems (eMR, eMaternity, and PCM) for documentation.
• Commitment to lifelong education through My Health Learning, K2 and participating in services and webinars in hospital.

• Completed 48 hours of placement with a privately practicing midwife.
• Completed Antenatal and postnatal appointments in woman's homes.
• Insight into private practicing reporting.
• Attended birth and parenting classes to gain understanding on physiological labour and birth.

• Woman-centred care - working with COMCEs and on clinical placement, this skill has been demonstrated throughout my practice. Receiving mentoring and feedback from midwives, MUMs and facilitators reinforce this. Working with parents and their families and their feedback has also provided the outcomes given through my care.
• Time management - this is a skill I have proven by managing effectively, delegating tasks, manage duties are cares within the healthcare environment effectively, shown throughout studying as a non-school leaver
• Leadership, teamwork and collaboration - willing to take initiative proactively whilist on placement, this skill I have acquired demonstrates my abilities through working with O&G, social workers, midwives. I have experience leading within a team framwowrk whilist working in a retail store.
• Verbal and written communication - proven confidence in talking to woman and their families about their care, this skill is validated through my academic achievements and customer service role in retail work.
