  • I moved into the Drill and Blast managers role directly from the Peats Ridge Quarry, my direct involvement in the development of the drill and blast management at Peats Ridge made it an easy choice to assist in influencing other sites across NSW and the ACT
  • I was responsible for training and assisting other quarry managers and site staff with drill and blast activities, in my role I assisted with compliance to the regulatory requirements of the Act and Regulation whilst developing drill and blast activities with Orica for Boral quarries

Boral Peats Ridge Quarry

  • I managed the Boral Peats Ridge Quarry, Peats Ridge is a large hard rock quarry producing 800 000 tonnes per annum, Peats employs 31 people including full time contractors
  • My focus at Peats Ridge has to develop the site due to its challenging geology and clay issues whilst maintaining a high output to meet network demands such as the North Connects project and the current high Sydney demand profile
  • My work at Peats has seen the development of the site and allowed Boral to secure a further future reserves once considered waste
  • Peats Ridge is a well sort after high strength aggregate used in the Sydney construction industry

Mine Manager

  • Company Overview: Marrangaroo Quartzite Mine
  • I managed the Metromix Marrangaroo quartzite mine in the NSW central west
  • The site is defined by the Department of Resource and Energy (DRE) as a mine site due to the deposit being recognised as a state significant site
  • I am responsible for all aspects of managing the site
  • Drill and Blast processes, load and haul activities, production planning and recording, developing and implementing safety systems, applying best practice methodologies to achieve continuous improvements, auditing for compliance, training and development, sales and sales forecasting and generating yearly budgets
  • The site has been challenging due to the nature of the deposits geology and slope stability issues
  • The site also has many environmental challenges for e.g
  • Bathurst Copper Winged Butterfly
  • The identification of the BCWB threatened to sterilise the site by stopping the development of a future haul road that would enable Metromix to see its operation continue for a further 35 years
  • After liaising with relevant governments authorities I worked with Runge Minerco to develop a new haul road that could be established to ensure the continuation of the operation whilst protecting the identified species habitat
  • Also managing a silica based site (94% - 98% silica) within 500 meters of a housing estate has produced some challenges to the site and ensured the relevant government authorities pay close attention to the operation and how it is operated
  • The implementation of a community relations program has reduced the tensions between local stakeholders and the site by providing an open relationship and a better understanding of the role the site plays in the local area whilst understanding the concerns of the local residents

  • Company Overview: Albion Park Quarry
  • Initially I was employed on a three month contract to lead the audit process to ensure the site was prepared for the upcoming Work Cover Self-Insurance audit
  • My role was to review the external audit that was conducted in 2010 and develop an implementation plan to ensure compliance to the requirements of the self-insurance audit
  • The Audit was conducted in February 2011 and the site was awarded an 85% pass mark which helped Holcim Australia retain their self-insurance status
  • My role after the audit was to remain on as a SHE coordinator and assist the site manager in complying safety management systems implemented at the site
  • Due to the resignation of the Production Manager I was also given the role of the temporary production manager while still completing my SHE coordinator role

Rocla Quarry Products

  • I started into the extractive industry in 2003 as a dredge and front end loader operator, I was employed at the Windsor quarry but also filled in at the other NSW sites as required
  • This included operating front end loaders and dredges at the Rocla Kurnell site, operating front end loaders, dredges, articulated dump trucks, excavators at the Rocla Calga site, Operating front end loaders and dredges the Rocla Raymond Terrace site, operating front end loaders, dump trucks, water carts and excavators at the Rocla Bell site
  • I was also utilised to assist in plant maintenance
  • With the closure of the Rocla Windsor site in late 2004 I was moved to the Rocla Bell site in the NSW Blue Mountains as the 2IC
  • In 2006 with the resignation of the Quarry Manager I was appointed to the position of Quarry Manager
  • In 2008 I was requested to audit the Rocla / Benedict joint venture Cowra Quartz in the NSW central west due to an incident involving a dump truck roll over
  • There was no manager at the site and the safety systems were not being utilised or followed
  • I was requested to oversee the management of the joint venture whilst managing the Rocla Bell site 300 kilometres east
  • I was responsible for selecting and training a suitable full time manager for the joint venture operation and performed this duty throughout 2009
  • The Rocla Bell site officially closed in late 2009 and I was moved into the role of Quarry safety coordinator for NSW / VIC operations
  • My role was created to assist in the implementation of a new corporate safety system due to Rocla Quarry Products failing their initial work cover self-insurance compliance audit
  • My role was to implement, train and develop evidence for the upcoming audit
  • Rocla Quarry Products were awarded a 78% pass and maintained their self-insurance
