I have been apart of the Darling Downs Scouts community for nearly 10 years time as a Leader. Leaders are crucial to the success of the Scouting Movement. As a Leader you will have access to a wide variety of resources, an opportunity to give back to the community, and the experience to educate Youth Members in the values and skills most important for being a good citizen. As a Leader you will achieve satisfaction from helping Youth Members set and achieve their own goals, while being there to help them when they fail and encourage them to continue. However, you will find that your proudest achievement will be building a strong bond of trust and friendship with the Youth Members.

In my time in the Scouting movement I have earned two major awards, the Baden Powell Scout Award and the Meritorious Service Award.

The Baden-Powell Scout Award is the highest award you can earn in the Rover Section and is widely recognised in the community. It is considered the pinnacle of your Scouting at this stage and is a milestone in your Scouting life.

The Meritorious Service Award is awarded to both Adult Members and Supporters for meritorious or praiseworthy service to Scouts Australia for a period of around six to eight years. ‘Meritorious Service’ is defined as performing to a higher standard for longer or more intensely, than would be reasonably expected.
