I’m an engineering student who’s also gained great experiences working as a bartender, gymnastics coach, and casual labourer. At the Commonwealth Hotel, I handle busy shifts, run private functions, and train new staff, which has really helped me build leadership and time management skills. Being a national champion gymnast and coaching gymnastics has taught me a lot about discipline, resilience, and working well under pressure. I’m hardworking, reliable, and always keen to learn and improve—whether that’s in my studies, at work, or in sport.
At the Commonwealth Hotel, I work as a bartender where I serve customers, manage busy shifts, and ensure smooth operations during and after trading hours. As one of the more experienced staff members, I regularly train new employees and take the lead in closing procedures. I also run private functions, which has strengthened my ability to manage events, multitask under pressure, and deliver high-quality service. Working large hours in a fast-paced environment has built my resilience and improved my leadership skills, allowing me to support both customers and team members effectively.
Leadership
I’ve always enjoyed taking on leadership roles—whether it was being House Captain in both middle and senior school, training new staff at the Commonwealth Hotel, or helping out younger gymnasts in my squad At work, I often run closing shifts and take the lead during busy nights and functions, which has helped me become more confident and reliable under pressure
Communication
Working in a busy bar has taught me how important clear and respectful communication is I talk to all kinds of people every day—customers, co-workers, and managers—and I’ve learned how to stay calm and professional even when things get hectic Gymnastics has also helped with this, especially when working as part of a team or giving feedback to others
Teamwork & Collaboration
Both my job and gymnastics rely heavily on teamwork I work closely with others during shifts to keep service running smoothly, and I’ve always been someone who steps in when needed In gymnastics, I train with a team and support my teammates through training and competition, so working with others has always come naturally to me
Work Ethic & Resilience
Being a national champion gymnast has taken years of hard training, discipline, and commitment—and I bring that same mindset to my job I work big hours, take on responsibility, and do whatever’s needed to get the job done well I originally handed in my resume three times at the Commonwealth just to get noticed, which I think shows how driven I am when I want something
Problem-Solving
Whether it’s fixing a service issue during a packed function or adjusting routines last minute before a gymnastics comp, I’ve learned how to think quickly and stay calm I don’t panic when things go wrong—I focus on finding a solution and making it work
Time Management
Juggling elite gymnastics, work, university and other responsibilities has taught me how to manage my time really well I’ve had to plan my weeks around training, comps, shifts and classes which means I know how to stay organised and on top of everything
Reliability & Commitment
People can count on me At work, I’m trusted to run closes, train new staff, and handle private functions In gymnastics, I show up, push myself, and support my team I take pride in being someone others can rely on, whether it's behind the bar or in the gym
