Disability Support Worker

Amazing Grace Community Services Pty Ltd
Darwin , NT
12.2020 - 05.2024
  • My main responsibilities as a support worker are assessing the practical and emotional needs of a client and drawing up a care plan, assisting with domestic tasks such as cooking, cleaning, washing, and shopping and develop supportive relationships with clients while demonstrating proper boundaries, I am currently working with multiple clients (such as Aboriginal and Indigenous people, children and youth) in Darwin, NT areas.

Volunteer

Foodbank NT
Darwin , NT
08.2019 - 10.2019
  • While doing the placement at Foodbank NT, I had the opportunity to contribute to the community development with their food relief program, whose mission is to achieve a Territory without hunger.
  • The major clients of the organization include different not-for-profit organizations, charities, and schools to which the organization supplies the basic food items at a substantially reduced rate.
  • These rates are not the food charges, but essentially handling and logistic costs to support the food relief program.
  • The organization is a community service provider, serving as a food bank for those in need.
  • I was able to enhance my problem-solving ability, soft skills, working in a team, decision making, leadership skills, time management, and effective strategy making.
  • An important lesson learned while working towards the humanitarian cause is to strike a balance between emotions and the practical situation, make unbiased decisions, respect all, irrespective of their culture and community, and maintain poise in uncertain situations.
  • With the help of these placement opportunities, I have enhanced my abilities to take cognizance of the underlying situation, think theoretically, but consider the real-world parameters that practically impact the situation, and make intelligent decisions. I was placed as a staff to gain experience in ground-level activities.
